I don’t think this author is blaming Americans, so much as, he’s attributing responsibility for some proximate causes, which led to this development. The biggest mistake, of course, was as the author stated, the reliance by Israeli leadership on the United States to protect it; and certainly funding the Iranians, to any level, by the U.S. Netanyahu was asleep at the switch. But, then of course, he was one of the first to congratulate Joe Biden for his “victory” over Donald Trump!
