'Sea of bodies' in Israel, scores dead in Gaza as shock Hamas attack unleashes war

JERUSALEM/GAZA/SDEROT Oct 7 (Reuters) - Gunmen from the Palestinian group Hamas rampaged through Israeli towns on Saturday killing and capturing scores of civilians and soldiers in a surprise assault, met by Israel with massive retaliatory air strikes that killed scores in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said the assault that had begun in Gaza would spread to the West Bank and Jerusalem.

“This was the morning of defeat and humiliation upon our enemy, its soldiers and its settlers," he said in a speech. "What happened reveals the greatness of our preparation. What happened today reveals the weakness of the enemy."

In Sderot, in southern Israel near Gaza, bodies of Israeli civilians lay strewn across a highway, surrounded by broken glass. A woman and a man were sprawled out dead across the front seats of a car. A military vehicle drove past the bodies of another woman and a man in a pool of blood behind another car.

"I went out, I saw loads of bodies of terrorists, civilians, cars shot up. A sea of bodies, inside Sderot along the road, other places, loads of bodies," said Shlomi from Sderot.

Terrified Israelis, barricaded into safe rooms, recounted their plight by phone on live TV.

"They just came in again, please send help," a woman identified as Dorin told Israel's N12 News from Nir Oz, a kibbutz near Gaza. "My husband is holding the door closed ... They are firing rounds of bullets."

True. The moslems started it, so let the Israelis finish it. Problem is with Biden in office the Democrats might send ships to save the moslems-and ship them to the USA.

Watch the linked video. FWIW the Pali’s have dozens of IDF soldiers and civilians being held in tunnels as hostages.

They will most likely kill them ala Munich live on TV.

[How does an allegedly 1st world military, one with top shelf intelligence, get invaded by people on dirt bikes and Toyota pickup trucks while taking away Israeli hostages in golf carts!]

You know how the Secret Service is mostly responsible just for one guy, but needs hundreds of people to protect him at events that are in locations pre-selected for security purposes? The average Israeli civilian doesn’t have a single bodyguard. It takes masses of troops to be on alert all the time to prevent this type of attack.

During Yom Kippur in 1973, the Syrians and Egyptians massed on Israel’s borders, drilled back and forth endlessly. The two countries had 20 times Israel’s population. They could afford to do this forever. Israel’s draftees had day jobs. If they were on duty at the border permanently, Israel’s economy would collapse.

The right thing to do would have been to issue a warning, then smash those formations if they did not back off. In 1967, the Egyptians and Syrians had similarly massed permanently on Israel’s borders. Israel destroyed their air forces, then smashed their border troop concentrations.

But in 1973, Kissinger told Israel that if it attacked the looming Arab armies on its borders, not a single bullet would be sent to Israel. So the Israelis stood down and, after an initial period of matching the Arab troop concentrations, sent their draftees back to their day jobs. That’s when the Arabs invaded and came within shouting distance of a second Holocaust.

The incident is likely similar. The problem is that Israel can’t go in and kill or capture tens of thousands of armed Palestinians without provocation. With this attack, it can, but even this has a very short time limit. The clock is ticking, and Israel has weeks, not months, to re-establish deterrence.

Meanwhile, Egypt and Jordan are being pressured by public opinion to make another attempt at Israel. Another blanket party might be in the offing for Israel, once again involving combined Arab armies. This kind of thing is why countries in the old days either butchered the men and married the women or required the conquered to submit/convert or die. So long as they remained separate and irredeemably hostile, they remained an existential threat.

I don’t watch as much as I used to. But you can’t be stuck in an echo chamber, where you only get one side of the story. Many Republicans are just as crooked as the Democrats, and many so called conservative news sources will lie through their teeth just like the MSM. Can’t trust anyone, these days. Be skeptical of everyone, and everything, that is presented before you. Only through your own personal research, and commitment to accuracy and honesty, will you find the truth.

Oh please....it’s nothing new and you know it. Wars are and have been funded through black market/government backed weapons transactions forever. You know it, I know it and everyone else does too. Being obtuse is not a good look. But something tells me you don’t really care about looking good OR looking at truth. And that’s ok... but honestly, you’re in the wrong forum… You’re only here to muck up the conversation and obscure reality… You’re doing a great job! Maybe your doctor DOESN’T have to increase your meds after all...

Are you REALLY "news-splaining" to ME?

In the beginning of FR, the Media and its "news" was one of my specialties, Junior.

Off you go.

I hope Israel unleashes a truly Biblical retribution upon your ass, Ismail. Better start running.

Why can’t Turkey or Iran take them?

Beside the fact that neither Turkey nor Iran is Arabic, they don't want them. No other Arab nation - Jordan and Egypt for example - wants them either.

Yes, because your posts indicate a limited, sheltered, one sided view of all topics. For example, I'm willing to give Trump credit, now on occasion, but especially in the past, when I was a supporter. Yet, from what I can tell, you find it impossible to ever call him out, on any of his obvious mistakes. That's not calling it correctly. And only through honest assessments do we improve.

They are not “in the Russian Federation”, they are in Ukraine, which they have invaded with great violence, torturing people, targeting civilians, kidnapping Ukrainian children. They are destroying Ukraine. You are simply being foolish, or you’re blinded by some misguided love of the Russians. May your words come back to haunt you.

The same way the United States does. Enemies within. Sloth. Lethargy.

I have always thought the Mossad was better than the CIA ( I mean, c'mon, if a communist like John Brennan can ascend to director of the CIA...). After all, they face existential threats everyday. But someone was seriously asleep here.

[It’s impossible to wipe out nationalist jihadis

I worked in Israel long ago

“Arabs…they are either at your feet or at your throat”

“They only respect a firm hand”

I heard those a lot from my Yom Kippur war vet buddies]

It’s possible to do so but only if the US flexes its muscle on behalf of Israel the way the Chinese are flexing theirs to suggest that what is done to Muslims within China’s borders is none of Islam’s business, and any country that says otherwise will face trade consequences. But the fundamental issue is that Israelis aren’t wired that way today. They would not eliminate the Palestinian population even if zero consequences would come about.

Eichmann, about as guilty as anyone can be, was the subject of Israeli handwringing in the run-up to his execution. Israel can’t bring itself to impose death sentences on captured terrorists. No way it will simply eradicate random Palestinians.

If you look at the size of Gaza, that pretty much eliminates it as an entity.

Works for me!

Follow the money...

Israel is one of the United States’ largest arms importers. In the past decade, the United States has sold Israel $7.2 billion in weaponry and military equipment, $762 million through Direct Commercial Sales (DCS), more than $6.5 billion through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

U.S. foreign policy: Fanning the flames of perpetual wars. There’s BIG money in it.

“They got caught napping. Isral8 Deep State was busy opposing Netenyahu.”

Something to think about.
All those labor strikes and army and reservists not showing up to work. Hamas could see that with no real intelligent agency than normal news online reports. Might just be one factor why they chose to attack now.
This is going to be a dangerous bloody mess.

For Israel, and Russia, they don’t have that freedom, so they have to try to minimize civilian deaths.

Hey BotL, dial it back some, even your fellow Putin Fanbois won’t parrot lies as obvious as the Russians trying to “minimize” civilian deaths.
