A couple’s recent trip from Grand Rapids, Michigan, became a nightmare after reaching crime-ridden and Democrat-controlled Portland, Oregon.
Adrian Hammerle and Eleora Gouine were excited about the 2,300-mile journey to Portland, where Adrian previously lived for a few years, KATU reported Thursday.
They'd heard about Portland's crime issues but understood it's something all big cities are going through.

Eleora said they knew about the crime plaguing the city but were not too worried about it. One day after settling into their Portland hotel, Adrian and Eleora found their car window had been smashed.

Why not vacation in St. Louis, Detroit or Chicago?
They are closer and could be at least as exciting. St. Louis is the #1 US city for murders, Detroit is #4 and Chicago is #10.
I would not go to Portland, OR without some expectation of random violence and a mission to inflict severe pain upon the violent ones.

The rampant crime is definitely the responsibility of the perps and pols; however, evil has been with us since the Garden.
Take precautions when you travel. Most BMVs are crimes of opportunity.
My family and I traveled extensively over the years. If we road-tripped, we only left the vehicle for bathroom breaks, to pump gas, or get fast food until we reached the first hotel. As soon as we checked into a hotel, we emptied the vehicle so that there was nothing “attractive” inside while we went about our activities. Even the charging plugs were removed and put in my large handbag.
In the hotel, we leave our suitcases zipped up, side by side, facing the same direction in the furthest corner of the room from the door or shoved tightly into the closet when not in use. We could tell immediately if someone touched them.
We thoroughly cleaned the house, locked it down tight, and closed every internal door on our way out. We would be able to tell instantly if someone had come in.
We’d have trusted friends come by to check it, collect mail, change which light is left on, etc. Jewelry, checkbook, etc. go into the small safe inside the big safe.
Knock on wood, in all our years of traveling nothing was ever stolen abroad or at home.
