No one is quite sure what comes next; what is clear is that Gaetz has channeled the frustration of the Republican/MAGA base into an actionable result. This should not come as a surprise to the GOPe, although many of the cloistered clan continue pretending not to understand the dynamic at play.
Allow me to provide some simple clarity.
♦ In 2009 72% of the country, and an even larger percentage of the Republican voters, did not want Obamacare. The govt takeover of healthcare was along purely ideological grounds. For the 2010 midterm election, the professional Republican apparatus campaigned on this single issue – repeal Obamacare. The voters destroyed the Democrats and flipped 67 seats to Republican control. The professional Republicans wanted the House, frustrated American voters gave it to them.
The Republicans did nothing.
♦ In 2012, the professional Republicans campaigned on retaining the House and asked to begin a process of taking down the Democrat control of the Senate. Remember, it was a 60/40 Senate when the Obamacare boondoggle was begun. Keep the House, help us take Senate seats, and we will repeal Obamacare and balance the budget. That was the call of the 2012 professional Republicans. The voters delivered. The GOPe kept the house, took 6 seats in the Senate and introduced a wave of fresh Republican blood.
The Republicans did nothing.

A prime example of the battle between our elected officials and us, the constituency.
They promise us one thing to get elected and then throw us under the bus. Maybe they’ll start to take heed……..we mean what we say.
The worst of all of them was Ryan. When Ryan was Speaker and Trump was POTUS the RINOS did everything they could to not shut down the border. They also did everything they could to not get rid of Obamacare.
Meanwhile, all of us middle class people are paying more for health care that is not as good.
Gowdy was worthless. Nothing more than a walking soundbite.
I judge people by what they actually do...not what they say.
Everyone loved Gowdy’s tirades...and yet, he actually did nothing. Nada. Zilch.
We’ve seen this same old movie countless times. The GOP says they need more seats to get past Democrat obstruction, and when they get more seats they do nothing. Rinse and repeat.
It is crystal clear that this party is devoid of any principles, convictions or core beliefs. All they want is more seats for themselves.
I have said for years that nothing would change in the GOP without accountability.
Kevin could have secured the border, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised to rein in spending, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised to end the business as usual in congress, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised to fix the budget process, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised to release the J6 tapes, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised to hold them accountable, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised to issue subpoenas to get to the bottom of many issues, but he didn’t.
Kevin promised a lot but delivered more of the same.
I don’t understand why so many have the vapors over this.... gridlock in congress is far more preferable to me than broken promises.
Agree completely about Gowdy. I had hope when he first came on the political scene. Sadly, I fear the same with Jim Jordan. I hope I’m wrong.

You are correct, of course, but the accountability has to start with GOP voters. Unfortunately they are not very discerning or demanding in terms of action and results. Too they reward serial failure and duplicity.
I always harp on that particular goal of the communists from the list of 45 goals, that I posted in post 20. It means only one thing.
SCOTUS had already ruled on gay marriage. Congress could not do anything about it.
Gowdy is good at theatrics, not much else.
So how to stop the tactic of Democrats registering as Republicans so they can vote for RINOs in primaries?
My assertion is that that ruling allowed Trump to be President, because he never had to address the issue. It was already a done deal. If he would have come out for gay marriage, most likely he never gets the nomination.

The highlighted statement here may have been factually correct at the time, but anyone who is familiar with the U.S. health care system would have told you a much different story. In fact, I predicted in 2009 that ObamaCare would never be repealed even if the GOP gained full control of the U.S. government.
What I knew back in 2009 was that Americans actually love most of the provisions of ObamaCare. At least 85% of American voters -- and even a sizable majority of FREEPERS -- absolutely loved several particular provisions of the law, including: (1) the elimination of annual and lifetime caps on health coverage, and (2) the requirement for insurers to cover all pre-existing conditions.
The only thing these people really didn't like about ObamaCare was the individual mandate and the penalty associated with it. The total silence about the employer mandate, even among critics and political figures who publicly opposed the individual mandate, was absolutely deafening.
What these people didn't realize was that the pre-existing coverage provision and the elimination of annual/lifetime caps on coverage were the two provisions that would make "health insurance" increasingly expensive over time.
I don't blame the GOP for refusing to repeal ObamaCare. I blame them for using their phony opposition to it as a political and fundraising tool even though they knew damn well that they had no intention of ever repealing it. And I also blame every Republican political leader at the state level who refused to use their power in state office to fight these most destructive provisions of ObamaCare -- by at least giving people the option of buying health insurance with waivers for pre-existing conditions and/or annual/lifetime caps on coverage.
Also, I don’t see how he can do both - run for President & be SOH. One activity or both would suffer! His ego might tell him he can, but that would be very foolish on his part. People may be thinking “This is how we slip him into the presidency without all that messy campaigning, election, etc.”. People who are thinking this way aren’t thinking it through. It would take way way too many perfect die rolls to occur!
Trump needs to run for president, concentrate on that! This McHenry guy may be the solution for SOH. He certainly has started off with a bang!
Simple. Produce results and honor campaign promises that give lots of people reasons to vote for you. And do something to inspire confidence in the party’s ability to get things done. Show some fighting spirit for crying out loud.
Instead the GOP does the opposite and gives people reasons NOT to turn out and vote for them. The GOP brand is a joke.
The professional republicans better wake up and realize that the new constitutional republic will look nothing like the former constitutional republic that we once had...
Republicans have been incredibly bad at picking leadership. Serially bad.
