As expected, Rep. Matt Gaetz filed a “motion to vacate” the speaker’s chair in the House on Monday evening, setting in motion a series of events that could see Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy removed from office.
“I have enough Republicans where at this point next week, one of two things will happen: Kevin McCarthy won’t be the speaker of the House or he’ll be the speaker of the House working at the pleasure of the Democrats,” Gaetz told reporters afterward outside the Capitol.
Gaetz means that because there are probably going to be more than five Republicans who vote for McCarthy’s ouster, the speaker is going to need Democratic votes — or abstentions — to keep his job.
Here are the members who have said they’ll vote to oust McCarthy.
There are several other Republican members who have said they’re still thinking about it. No doubt, these members are holding back, seeing what both sides can offer them. This will give McCarthy time to strongarm several of these members or entice them with perks. The speaker’s powers are great, and the old adage, “If you strike at the king, you must kill him,” holds true in this case.
But the big question is, what will the Democrats do? Traditionally, the opposition party votes for their floor leader for speaker, In this case, it’s Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
Jeffries is in a unique position. He could help elect McCarthy by allowing some Democrats to vote for the speaker — an unprecedented collaboration with unknown consequences. Jeffries could also allow some of his members to be absent or vote “present” thus lowering the threshold that McCarthy would need to win a majority of the House.

If the GOP comes up with a great alternative, the Dems will keep McCarthy by allowing a handful to vote for him.
No more RHINOS
Go with Gaetz. He frightens them.
I’m available. All I need is a cattle prod.
Let’s make a deal time. Gaetz has nothing to offer and will this lose.
Jeffries
Keep Gaetz in prayer.
As a man that honors his oath to office, as well as his promise to constituents, he is now a target of the uniparty.
That’s just how it works in the swamp.
Or Hakeem Jeffries becomes speaker with 5 or 6 blue state GOPers voting with him or absenting themselves.
Who would succeed McCarthy? Hakeem Jeffries. If enough Rs abstain, Jeffries wins.
Let me put it this way: who was elected President because of Ralph Nader in 2000? Nader got 2.7% of the vote (and 1.6% of the vote in Florida). Even considering the votes for Buchanan (.4%, and .3% in Florida), the libertarian (.4%, and .3% in Florida) and the constitutionalist (.1%), these votes tilted the election to the Republican.
The problem with third parties in a two-party democracy is that, when they get a significant number of votes, they throw the election to the party of the opposite side of political spectrum.

It’s unfortunate that he failed to use the speakers power as leverage to honor his oath as well as the promises to his constituants!
And just this morning I was thinking, “what if Santa Claus is really real, he could replace McCarthy”
Is there anyone not already associated with McCarthy and his leader ship team that could take over?
Get rid of the RINOS and the Democrats take back the House.
Not wise at all.
I'll drink to that...but these daze, I'll drink to anything!
What’s the difference? At least the illusion of choice is shattered, and people can finally wake up.
Only the GOP would be stupid enough to publicly announce who will replace him before voting to oust him.
To quote Nancy Pelosi: "You have to vote to oust him to find out who will replace him."

the uniparty is a third party caucus.
You can rest assured that the Uniparty will remain in charge, calling the shots and destroying the country regardless of how this plays out.
That's an argument for booting McCarthy.
