New York Rep. Mike Lawler on Sunday warned that hard-line Republican colleague Matt Gaetz's plan to call a vote on removing Speaker Kevin McCarthy would be "destructive to the country" and further delay conservatives' work on long-term government funding bills.
"Nobody in our conference disagrees with the need to do single-subject spending bills. Nobody disagrees with the need to cut spending," Lawler told ABC "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl. "In fact, it's one of the biggest reasons why I ran."
Gaetz, in a separate interview on "This Week," denounced a temporary funding bill passed by Congress on Saturday to avert a partial government shutdown, arguing that it didn't do enough to change the culture of spending in Washington.
He said he would seek to remove McCarthy this week for backing the bill, which will fund the government through mid-November.
Lawler, a more moderate member of the GOP conference, defended the legislation as the "only responsible thing to do" to allow the party more time to finish individual spending proposals rather than the massive, all-in-one packages of past years.
"When you're trying to break the system, when you're trying to reform it, it takes time," he said. "We have been doing the work over the last few months, going line by line, budget bill by budget bill, finding ways to cut spending and reform the system. But we were not able to complete that work by Sept. 30, which was the end of the fiscal year. And so, to shut down the government would inflict pain on the American people."

McCarthy is the last in line of their moderate succession plan.
Once he’s gone, moderates know the leadership goes conservative, so they’re naturally against that.
I hate “moderate” Republicans. I’d like “moderate” Democrats but unfortunately, there aren’t any. All Democrats are extreme, far-left radicals.
No worse than lying RINO’s who can’t keep their word has already destroyed it...
“moderate Republican says”??
Mitt Romney? BARF BARF BARF
O.K. WHEN? Give me a 4 week deadline and that's fine. Kick the can and it's not fine.
“Lawler, a more moderate member of the GOP conference, defended the legislation as the “only responsible thing to do” to allow the party more time to finish individual spending proposals rather than the massive, all-in-one packages of past years.”
Where exactly was this guy from January to September, when McCarthy was intentionally dithering.
We already know what’s going to happen in November. There will be more screaming and they’ll “JUST HAVE TO” pass ANOTHER continuing resolution that takes us to mid-December. And in mid-December, up against the Christmas break, they’ll “JUST HAVE TO” pass ANOTHER continuing resolution that takes us to March.
And the game begins all over again.
No one addresses the substance of what he is saying. Explain why taking up individual ideas is untenable. Did McCarthy agree to what Gaetz is saying he agreed to and if so why isn’t he honoring the agreement. The media is useless.
Its emotionally gratifying to rage against compromises. However the real solution is for the Republicans to win many more House seats and take clear control of the Senate and of course the Presidency. Otherwise it will be virtually impossible to reverse the harm that the lunatic, globilist Democrats are doing to the American people and the American nation.
ya cuz what they are doing isn’t right?
it’s time to purge the rinos.
Uniparty wins again. Taxpayers lose again.
No point in this unless it can at least get a majority of the Republican vote and require the Democrats to save him. That wouldn’t remove him but it would completely expose him as a Democrat.
Removing Speaker Kevin McCarthy would be “destructive to the Deep State.”
I still cherish the look of utter surprise on Eric’s mug when he was successfully primaried.
Moderate Republicans = GLOBALIST DS Cabal
When the country is being destroyed by Democrats, a moderate Republican is a collaborator.
Removing Speaker Kevin McCarthy would be “destructive to the Deep State.”
Exactly.
