House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) plans to come after his speakership will fail.
Anchor Margaret Brennan said, “I want to start, though, on the news from Congressman Matt Gaetz, who says he’s going to seek a motion to vacate. He’s going to try to oust you as speaker of the House.”

Re: 94 - LOL!
Agree, no principles, but power is their ideology.
Simple fact is purists are not popular. Very few get elected. Not a winning strategy to use filters for purists.
Unless you enjoy being a pitiful minority in Congress.
Nancy Pelosi keeps her minions in line. And she’s more of a Marxist.
The Democrat will replace McCarthy.
Obviously you didn’t read my statement — democrats are purists and they win because they stick together. So, purists do win. But republicans are a mix of Rinos, democrats who call themselves republicans and conservatives. And we have seen what your apparent philosophy of giving in and not being purists has done to the country.
The establishment picks em, elects em, and strategizes em. How would i subvert a republic? I’d buy it off.
Sorry you are wrong. I have lurked on DUmmies since it began with Al Gore’s loss in 2000. I have seen a large variety of shades of purity there. Not all are hard left liberals. Only thing democrats do not do is attack each other. Only stupid republicans use cannibalistic tactics.
BS. I have a LONG LIST of excellent conservative purists who lost elections.
This is just a short list of excellent conservatives who lost badly in elections.
Roy Moore
Todd Akin
Ken Cuccinelli
Richard Mourdock
Christine O’Donnell
George Allen
Joe Miller
Ken Buck
Alan West
Doug Hoffman
Barry Goldwater
Conservatives are halfway out of the GOP as it is. McCarthy is doing his best to drive the remaining conservatives out. It’s not just that making deals with Democrats is generally a bad idea. It’s these specific deals which put a higher priority on the Ukraine border than our own.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Would you Cheddat or Brie with that?
“McCarthy serves the democrats for his authority as house speaker.”
McCarthy ceded the Speakership to Hakeem Jeffries months ago.
Their ideology is fake, there is nothing behind brute force dictatorship.
They spew all this crap, it is all a lie.
Pleased to say that I’m not buying Matt Gaetz snake oil. You’ll need to find your own crackers to go with it.
I’m 75. There only 2 on that list that I remember for being examples of conservative.
entropy12 is an Indian ex-pat whose standards of freedom are questionable.
I appreciate your well written and factual response devoid of the usual ranting and personal attacks that are so common on this forum.
My problem with McCarthy is that he is supposed to be a leader yet he drags his feet on everything. While getting rid of the Omnibus bills is a good thing, why did he not act to get this process underway and the work done a lot sooner?
In a similar vein, McCarthy hasn’t supported the issuance of subpoenas either and delayed the impeachment inquiry. He talks tough but is very passive.
McCarthy is a terrible and duplicitous Speaker and I suspect that however the spending is eventually resolved any “cuts” will, in the end, basically be inconsequential.
Gaetz in trying to stop a run away train and is getting little help from the weak and feckless McCarthy. Its fair to criticize some of Gaetz’s tactics and theatrics, but he’s leading the battle against dangerously irresponsible spending and for that he deserves our gratitude and encouragement. Someone has to lead after all.
Please see my post #110.
Real conservatives do not get elected in enough numbers to lead Congress. That is just a fact. We must fight with weapons we have, not weapons we wish we had.
