A third of the Royal Canadian Navy's entire Pacific frigate fleet is visiting Japan. Mind you, that's just two vessels.
By contrast, Japan's navy is vastly larger and its government is embarking on its largest military spending spree since the Second World War.
Japan has recently announced a $433-billion upgrade plan to turn its armed forces into a major regional force, buying missiles capable of hitting China and Chinese ships and ensuring Japan will become the world's third-largest spender on defence (after the U.S. and China).
That 65 per cent increase in spending will mean Japan hits the mark of directing two per cent of GDP to defence no later than 2027.

A real World beater, that Canada.
From the headline, you’d think that the whole Navy was two vessels. If you coun’t even smaller ships, it is almost certainly more than an order of madnitude bigger.
“There are also historical tensions and territorial disputes between Japan and China that have, at times, involved their militaries.’
Lol. Ya think?
At this point, I don’t think I would even care if Japan decided to take over China again.
Maybe we can sell them those ships that the USN is getting rid of? I can’t think of the class of ship, but they are fairly new.
I dunno, I just read it that Canada has only 2 frigates in its Pacific fleet (and perhaps the implication is that they don’t have any larger vessels at all in their Pacific fleet).
3rd largest Navy in 1945. Had an active carrier into the early 70’s.
Right now, just don’t insult the beer.

Generally for naval forces, one third is deployed, one third is in overhaul, and one third is training.
You’re probably thinking of the Littoral Combat Ships, but I don’t think Canada would want them, since they seem to be death traps.
Littoral Combat Ships
They’re awfully complacent for a country that Russia can almost swim to.
This time, I support Japan.
(Maybe in hindsight, we should have back in the 30s)
I didn’t even know Canada had a navy
gotta wonder...if the Japanese Imperial army still controlled China would we have a China problem? just sayin’
I was thinking about Japanese. Or sell them to the Chicoms to reverse engineer. /S
Does the Canadian Navy have their own tugboats yet or do they still expect the US Navy to give them a tow when they break down?
So long as Canada can hold Vancouver Island and Vancouver itself, the rest of the Pacific coast offers mighty poor footholds.
Japan shouldn’t let any Trudeau boat in its waters.
Canada is more closely aligned with Red China.
All I can say is that I am glad their on our side this time. Once was enough.
