Russia's air force has lost 90 planes since the start of the war in Ukraine and is becoming less formidable by overworking its jets, UK intelligence said.
The British Ministry of Defence said in its latest daily intelligence update on Thursday that Russia is quickly depleting its fleet of warplanes through overuse because the conflict is dragging on for much longer than anticipated.
"All aircraft have a projected lifespan, in flying hours," the update said, adding that it's highly likely that with the extra use, Russia is "eating into many of its airframes' lifespans" far more quickly than planned for.
Some of Russia's military aircraft are flying far more sorties than in peacetime, the update said.

"Overuse of these aircraft is also costing Russia as the war drags on," Bohnert said, adding: "To make up for it, they'll have to procure more aircraft, increase maintenance, reduce operations, or accept a smaller force — or some combination of those."
Bohnert also said that as the air force devotes a greater share of its dwindling resources to countering Ukrainian jets, cruise missiles, and air defenses, it will have fewer aircraft left to support Russian ground operations.
After a year and a half of fighting, Ukraine's air defenses have remained effective. Its air force has managed to maintain its overall front-line strength by restoring old, grounded airframes and acquiring from NATO countries 18 Su-25s and 27 MiG-29s.

The picture of Sophie Ankel is perfect - I wonder if she uses the name Davys Davidov at her other job.
I see this quote “adding that it’s highly likely that with the extra use, Russia is “eating into many of its airframes’ lifespans” far more quickly than planned” and think
a) Apparently the Ukrainians really avoided that extrapolated possibility by not having enough of their own planes to make a difference if they wear out, and
b) Sophie’s handlers told her that critics keep pointing out Russia has air superiority so the Ukrainians are dying rapidly in their under equipped attempts to break through defensive lines and/or protect any/all of the western equipment given them, and
c) All propagandists have been been told to spend some time trying to convince the public to ignore what Zelensky said many months ago, that the Ukraine could not win the war without enough aircraft, and start hinting, hinting, hinting that Russia’s aircraft will probably wear out in 10 years instead of the projected 15 years, and
d) let the public assume that Russia cannot manufacture or purchase more planes whereas the Ukraine’s inability to acquire planes and foreign pilots to fly them (C’mon, rookies don’t fly sorties against Russian veterans) is thisclose to changing, especially now that NATO partners and Biden are pressuring Zelensky to negotiate.
Probably true, but that was mostly due to will. We were careful to avoid the CIA sponsored Syrian rebels, and we were somewhat annoyed at stopping any of them because our goal was that SOME group of rebels depose Assad. So our heart wasn’t in it.
Russia simply had to say Syrian government or Not Syrian Government and bomb accordingly.
So mission rates in Syria probably had just as much to do with the fact that were were allies with large swaths of the rebel wahabbists.
He’s Russian. Fought with the bad guys.
You bet. I do not generally take the military analysis of a 25 year old journalism girl seriously. I also don’t listen to males describing woman things. Get real, tell me with a straight face she could tell a MiG from an F-18 at 50 paces.
So I guess yeah, I’m sexist. Go put on a dress and swish around for us.
And BTW.. the term “sexism” came from the USSR in the 1920s. Part of the whole class struggle thing. And now here you are accusing people of it.... you dirty commie.
“Seems she’s not shy about having her picture taken...with or without clothes. “
Smiling, happy. At least she doesn’t present as a brooding psychopath.
So you fell for that Kelly McGillis “fighter expert” scene in Top Gun did ya? LOL
See... that was just for the movie. In real life the expert tech rep would have been a dude. But they had to add in a romance aspect to get chicks to sit through the film.
Today’s Copium.
Yeah, like we wore out the B-52s and C-130s.
Even those F-15s.
worn out
A lot of leaders in the NATO club are invested heavily in the belief that if enough pressure is applied to Russia then the country, the economy, the military and society will collapse like a JENGA tower. Only one little problem — that strategy has failed; the opposite happened.
Instead of growing weaker and fracturing, Russia has grown stronger and less dependent on the United States and Europe. The economy is purring along. The Russian defense industry has ramped up to unprecedented levels in the modern Russia era. For example, Russia is churning out more than two million 152mm artillery rounds a year. The Russian army is filling recruitment quotas and turning out fully trained soldiers. Russia is producing surprising numbers of hypersonic missiles and drones, which have transformed the battlefield in Russia’s favor.
Compare that with the United States. The U.S. economy is not doing well. The US bankruptcy court, for example, reported a total of 15,724 bankruptcies in the fiscal year that ended 30 June 2023. This is a 23% increase over the prior year. How about the defense industry? Well, they are raking in bucket loads of cash but turning out very little. Ukraine is running low on 155 mm shells and the United States only is making 340,000 a year. That amount is insufficient to meet Ukraine’s daily requirement. Similar story on the recruitment front — the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are falling short of their annual goals. And despite spending hundreds of billions of dollars on weapon systems, the United States still has not developed and deployed a hyper sonic missile.
The United States is facing multiple, self-inflicted disasters. The flood of illegal immigrants is drowning Democrat led cities, which once touted themselves as sanctuary cities for immigrants. New York’s Governor and the Mayor of New York City both are complaining heatedly about being overwhelmed with undocumented migrants. America’s major cities — New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco are wracked with murders, theft and muggings.
So yeah, the United States is playing JENGA, but the tower that will topple is not Russia. It is America that is facing catastrophe. I wish I was engaged in hyperbole, but the social fabric of America is being shredded and the partisan divide is a growing, unbridgeable chasm.
Recent remarks by Speaker of Russia’s Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, and echoed byForeign Minister Lavrov and Defense Chief Shoigu, carries an ominous message for the West — Russia is not interested in a negotiated settlement with Ukraine. “Ukraine must surrender on Moscow’s terms or the country will “cease to exist.” These are not isolated, idle, off-the-cuff statements. Russia is sending a very clear message. Will American listen or continue to play Russian JENGA?
Yep. The Russians are second only to the US in attack aircraft with over 1500 jets. I doubt they are too stressed.
hahahaha. I’m counting the days for the eventual collapse of Ukraine, if only to dangle it under the nose of these noisy chatterboxes.
Yes, empty barrels make the loudest noise.
At least, that's what the pictures online show...
She took a page out of our esteemed VPs scrapbook :)
“ He’s Russian. Fought with the bad guys.”

Well, Snake, in Syria would the “bad guys” be the side that protected Christians according to your beliefs?
Speaking of utter nonsense and cia propaganda, your favorite cia propaganda outlet, NYT, offers this tidbit for us today:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/09/28/world/europe/russia-ukraine-war-map-front-line.html
If course I cannot open the link because it is behind the NYT paywall. But all you pro-Biden-war contractors have links to all this NYT propaganda, so there you go.
Other sources say: The Times finds that “Less territory changed hands in August than in any other month of the war” and that “While Ukraine made small gains in the south, Russia took slightly more land overall, mostly in the northeast.” And in total, the report says, “When both sides’ gains are added up, Russia now controls nearly 200 square miles more territory in Ukraine compared with the start of the year.”
Greg Greenwald says on Twitter / X:
https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1707407039448731684
“Amazing and sad chart from NYT on how virtually nothing has changed from 9 months of tragically deadly and expensive fighting in Ukraine throughout 2023”
At what cost, dear Snakey, at what cost? This stupid and deadly Biden proxy war is costing focus on much more important things, like what to do with the 8 MILLION illegal aliens who have swarmed over this southern border of the USA.
That illegal immigration poses an actual danger to the USA and its citizens every single day, as opposed to this CIA proxy war you are so fond of promoting for Biden here on FR.
You need to talk to Vlad Putin about all of that because he’s the one waging it.
