Yep. They could very easily have learned this guy’s background; it wasn’t a secret. But no worries: just today the Canadian Parliament entertained a motion to strike his acknowledgment and the two ovations from the official parliamentary record.
Guy was probably a bit player, a private or maybe corporal in an SS division. Very few enlisted men in the German military were card-carrying Nazis, but that doesn’t matter when there are propaganda points to be scored.
