The Art Institute of Atlanta set to permanently close in less than a week

An Atlanta art institution announced that it will be closing its doors....

Just a week before a new semester was supposed to start on Oct. 2, The Institute sent an email saying that on Sept. 30, it would be permanently closed.

The Art Institute of Atlanta isn’t the only school shutting down. The entire institute system is closing.

School officials state that although there have been many successful alumni, the academic operations will stop after current students complete their classes this term.

A series of events over the past 10 years, both external and internal to the campus operations has forced the closure...

“Although there is no formal transfer of credit agreements in place, there will be academic and student financial aid staff available to students at the campus through the end of 2023. We are hopeful that the colleges and universities in each of the Art Institute markets will assist students and allow them to transfer their credits and complete their program of study,” the email states.

Students and staff of the Atlanta branch said they had no warning and thought they were going to start a new semester next week on Oct. 2.

The closure affects students enrolled at the following branches:

• Miami International University of Art & Design

• The Art Institute of Atlanta

•The Art Institute of Austin, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston

• The Art Institute of Dallas, a branch of Miami International University of Art & Design

• The Art Institute of Houston

• The Art Institute of San Antonio, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston

• The Art Institute of Tampa, a branch of Miami International University of Art & Design

• The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta

This is going to effect a lot of students.

The progressive left destroys every institution in which it infiltrates.

Yep- all those college loans, all the tuitions that have been paid will probably never be reimbursed. And what about the students who are on a specific course of study who won’t be able to finish?????

Needs an audit to see what’s been happening with the money. Lots of administrator bonuses I’ll bet. After all they are all lefties = corrupt thieves.

Wow! They had a rocky start…40 yrs ago, when they were suspected of being a visa mill …but they’ve actually been pretty reputable and have some good programs. They also own a huge number of properties in all of these cities. I wonder what happened?

My story might not be typical at all. But I know folks who went to branches of the Art Institute. None of them got decent jobs in the field. Jobs, yes. But well-paying professional jobs, no.

According to Wikipedia they have a 21% graduation rate.

So, few people graduate, fewer still get jobs. Bet most are saddled with debt and left working in unskilled jobs with broken dreams. Bet also the company owners and administrators lived nicely while it lasted.

I knew many students at the Art Institute of Dallas 30+ years ago, and most were there to study various flavors of art.

The most successful were the ones that were learning computer animation and computer art.

At least, the graduates that worked at Ensemble Studios in Dallas (just a couple of miles from the college), all seemed to like their work and pay.

Ensemble Studios wrote the Age of Empires game series.

And once M$ bought Ensemble Studios, those with equity positions did very well.

If todays art students follow AI designed art research, they will do well. This area of art is in its infancy with a broad prospectus on the horizon.

Yep. In addition to the shamefully low graduation rate, they have a 15-20% student loan default rate. The schools were sold to a Pentecostal ministry in So Cal -- coincidentally the successor to Aimee Semple McPherson's notorious Angelus Temple.

Who’d a thunk that millions and millions of art students and majors, aren’t needed by anyone? Wow.

I lived in Atlanta back in the day and vividly remember their locations on Peachtree - Dunwoody. I believe at one point, they were located in Buckhead.

While I agree they were probably pretty woke, as most arts are, they did produce some talented people.

Too bad.

I seem to remember they had a pretty good culinary arts program which a lot of young chefs attended and ended up with pretty good jobs. But, maybe I’m thinking of another institution and I’m too lazy (just had dinner and a slice of cherry pie with a scoop of ice cream for dessert) to go look for that information.

But, the harm is going to be to the students who were soon to graduate and those who planned to go there this fall. A shut-down with little to no notice and now these students are left scrambling.
