The Army is showing no signs of curtailing its deployments to Europe as the war in Ukraine continues to grind on.
On Wednesday the Army announced that about 3,400 soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division’s 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team will head to Eastern Europe this fall, as will 200 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division Headquarters.
The units will deploy primarily to Romania as well in Southeastern Europe and to the continent’s “High North” region that includes Scandinavian countries, Army officials said.
Among the 101st troops are infantry units from the division’s storied 187th Infantry Regiment, known as the Rakkasans.
“We look forward to the return of the 82nd Airborne Division to the continent, and to the Rakkasan’s next ‘rendezvous with destiny,’ which follows the back-to-back deployments of their storied division’s two other infantry brigade combat teams,” Army Col. Martin O’Donnell, a spokesman for U.S. Army Europe, said in a statement.
The brigade from the 101st Airborne will replace the division’s 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The 82nd Airborne troops will replace a similar unit from the 10th Mountain Division, an Army news release says.

You don’t seem to know anything about the 101st.
Affirmative action was first put into force by JFK with an executive order, then LBJ, then Nixon, and so on.
Replace China with Russia and US with Ukraine. Now why hasn't that happened?
Maybe, but places like RAF Lakenheath practiced for decades doing a nuclear first strike should Russia attack = suicide.
While I don't have the heritage that you have with the military, I did serve my country by volunteering (USN) at the age of 17 (two months after high school) -- just as Vietnam was ramping up. I grew up in a very small town in the south, and my mother ran the draft board (so-called Selective Service) for our county. So, I knew all about serving. I went on to serve aboard a US Navy submarine. I was tested for what then was called UDT (now Seals) and accepted for training, but I didn't serve because I would have to extend my stay in the Navy for several years.
I was proud of my country and even more proud to be a part of a small group of men who took to the ocean in a huge tube that measured 18' X 180' and could duck under the surface of the ocean -- and better yet, come back up. That experience set the stage for what I became through life. It was exciting, formative and I was quite proud as someone who came from very humble beginnings (poor).
Anyway, that's my story.
I did not leave my love for my country and respect for those who help protect us.
Sadly, they left me! Slowly, at first, and now at hyper-speed and on steroids.
The men and women who serve our once great country are, for the most part, as dedicated as you and I were (or are). Sadly, they are led by crooks, fools, goons, and those who want to change our history and everything that made us great as a nation.
I shudder to think of those young people who are sent into the endless wars dreamed up by the fools running this country and then come home in body bags or leave their arms and legs and broken lives on the other side of the planet. What the hell is their young life and the lives of their family sacrificed for? Those lives are being extinguished/sacrificed by the likes of the self-serving buffoons that run our country for their own selfish/personal benefit. I could name names but will spare you.
In my mind, the decay and rot is far from over. Will it get better? Yes, probably -- but not before it gets much worse.
We've been through this before as a nation. Think of the periods leading up to the Depression/WWII, to 1861, or the period leading up to 1776. In those periods, there was never a clear view that we would come out the other end in the same way we went in. The same is simply just as true today -- almost 80 years from the last event (note the 80-year cycle between each).
Will we come through this intact? Who knows? There are clearly no guarantees, and that is quite clear from history that spans a few thousand years.
In the meantime, our so-called adversaries look at our bullying, threats, and direct and indirect (covert) interference, and they don't like it one bit. And they are gearing up to counter that threat. On top of that, they are not the same countries they were 50 years ago -- and it is perfectly clear we aren't either. We are descending, and they are ascending.
It's time for us to wake up and pull up our chairs at the big world table and have big men/women conversations. The time when we can effectively threaten and bully are gone. Its over. There are better ways to resolve our differences.
Will that happen? Who knows, but it don't look good at the moment.
Suicide or not, there was and is a US nuclear first strike policy and plans.
WW3 buildup.
Very limited chance of survival once this gets serious.
I’m getting some bucket list items checked off and spending time on the straits.
Thanks for being a war cheerleader. Hope you enjoy the outcome.
Those long range missiles are a red line, per Russia.
Hope you are ready to meet God.
Plans = bluff.
No. I don't.
But I do know that they made an appearance in our attacks on the third-world nations of Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and in two of the three of those events, we got our butts handed to us, and the third was an unmitigated disaster that cost the lives of few thousand of our young men and upwards of millions of others.
Now they are being sent, for show mostly, at the behest of the warmongers leading to do battle with -- not third-world countries but with one of the most formidable militaries in the world. You know, like little pawns on a chessboard.
Good luck with that.
Thant's all I know.
You think the 101st fails at combat?
No.
That is not what I said.
My comment was, that they were sent into at least the three events I mentioned, and it made no difference in the final outcome.
Those are facts -- not hype.
I'm pretty sure they are dedicated, well-trained humans for their purpose (war). But, so is the other side.
That's all.
The SEALs were started in 1962, in your Navy days the UDT and SEALs were separate.
Yes, the 101st does not decide the fate of America’s wars, no one Division does.
This normal rotation is just a normal NATO rotation, with different units at different times, the 101st has been going to Europe and to NATO for generations.
If you are reading the thread then all this has been explained by our more knowledgeable posters.
No need. Ukraine was never in a position to dominate the battlefield through air supremacy.
Correct.
You made my point, and we agree.
The innuendo of the original story was that we are sending our troops to Romania and the Arctic, on the doorstep of our adversary, to counter the Ukraine SMO and the Russians.
The first sentence of that story reads......
"The Army is showing no signs of curtailing its deployments to Europe as the war in Ukraine continues to grind on.
In other words, more hype, propaganda, and bluster -- 'cause in your words, "no one Division does."
I was tested for UDT a little over one year after JFK directed the formation of SEALS in 1962.
That was quite a while ago, but I'm not sure there was much knowledge of JFK's directive at the time. In other words, the use of the term SEALs one year after the directive may not have been widely known."Underwater Demolition Team (UDT), or frogmen, were amphibious units created by the United States Navy during World War II with specialized non-tactical missions. They were predecessors of the navy's current SEAL teams."
What I do recall is that the boat I was on trained to deliver the UDT guys to blow up things on beaches behind enemy lines -- and for all I know, may have done the same when we invaded the sovereign country of Cuba (less than 90 miles from where I lived at the time), and it was something that interested me -- at the time.
I'm long over that now, though.
"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
More knowledgeable about exactly what?
How to kill one another in battle or how to resolve conflicts so they don't lead to battle?
All that posting only revealed how confused you are about everything.
There was so much confusing oddball stuff in them, even about you thinking about trying out for UDT, a lot of people think about things but in your mind you have yourself graduated, passed, and served as UDT which you have morphed into how you almost attended SEAL training and served as a SEAL instead of the UDT, no wonder you have so much trouble with military questions and routine NATO rotations, you are a bit of a dramatic fantasist.
If Trump is re elected, it will happen. He is an imperfect man, but he is called to do this. It is not his ego driving him. He does love the nation.
The O’Biden regime will go to the ash dump of history. And the traitors can go back whence they came. Their master will surprise them.
By the way, I ran a Navy/Marine Corp MARS station out of my home for 19 years. 1976-1995
I was not in the Navy but they were a bunch of good guys.
