LUGANSK (Sputnik) - A Russian reconnaissance team has destroyed a German-supplied Leopard tank of the Ukrainian military with a crew comprised of Bunderswehr soldiers in the Zaporozhye direction, the team lead with the moniker Legend told Sputnik on Saturday.
"When we curbed another offensive and ATGM-ed [destroyed with an anti-tank guided missile] the Leopard, we moved out to the burned vahicle hoping to seize the 'tongue.' Then we saw that the crew's driver-mechanic was severely injured and the others were dead. Once he awoke, the mechanic started yelling 'nicht schießen' ["do not shoot" in German]," the head of the reconnaissance team said.

(1) Have Sergey Lavrov tell the world from the UN Security Council or Putin in a televised address from the Kremlin
(2) Sweep the whole thing under the rug to avoid escalation.
You know what makes no sense - having third tier Russian propaganda sources leak the news.
That is the task of the infantry. Tanks help but probably not against a technologically advanced foe. They show up to satellite surveillance like great flares. They are fine in the border wars we have been fighting since WWII against non technically advanced foes. Even in Vietnam fighting against Russian tech was fighting against a very rudimentary electronic capability. Not so any more. Fighting against any country or group against Russia or China makes tanks a waste of resources.
Many Russians speak at least a bit of German, just as many of us gringos habla a bit of español. And any formal questioning would have been done by an officer who’d be even more likely to speak passable German. (Putin is fluent.) Still, this story might be hogwash.
“Rommel, you magnificent bastard...”
Best line ever!
Doesn’t the crew who takes out a German Leopard got like 1,500 Ruble reward? Did he have ID papers—a Dog Tag? Or some evidence from the witness—was the witness drunk at the time? If not we have a body and the witnesses word only—This smells bad. A Pole, maybe, German, No.
You must be posting to the wrong person, and your posts are getting nuttier and even more bizarre.
Language and dialect!
Very remarkable indeed!
Was this before or after the Russians killed the American general who had already died in a plane crash in Maryland ???
I *THINK* tongue refers not to the tank, but to its position at the very leading tip of the advance.
I could be wrong, nahhh...
But some FReepers will: lock, stock, and smooth bore barrel!
I was in a reconnaissance unit that wore sterile uniforms and a lot of SERE/POW training, I would think that if you were going to send an active-duty German tank crew to fight the Russians clandestinely, then you would put them in Ukraine uniforms and make sure everything fit the scenario and that they would be educated on security issues and interrogation.
By the way, would a German tank crew in an old tank make such a difference in this war that it would be worth what this article wants to sell about NATO entering the war, etc.?
I’m well aware of the language issue of a recon team in the field being able to hear the German for his deathbed spilling of the guts while on a top-secret mission, it is, of course, possible, but it does need to be added to the list of questions about credibility.
Night schiessen?
Well nein Scheiss, Sherlock!
For contrast...Ukrainian draft dodger...
am absolutely ready to shoot myself in the leg rather than ever go back to the front,” Andrey, who described himself as “a contract soldier” and “a professional,” told the newspaper.
He added that he now asks himself why he should “go back to be meat in a trench after seeing so much corruption and incompetence involved in the system” that paid no attention to him or his wounds.
Andrey also said that he was especially frustrated over the corrupted way he was handled by a Ukrainian military medical commission.
“The doctors said that they couldn’t take all the bullet fragments out without the risk of damaging nerves so badly that I’d lose the use of my arm. One doctor offered to write me a certificate saying I was unfit for future service if I paid him $1,500. But I didn’t take his offer. At the time I was still angry, keen to fight the Russians and to get my revenge for my dead friends,” the 20-year-old was cited by the newspaper as saying.
Andrey added that at the end of the day, he was ordered to return to his combat unit on the frontline in Donbass because the authorities did not consider him to be sufficiently wounded to warrant a discharge, nor deserve fully-fledged surgery abroad.
According to him, after he asked his battalion commander for help, the commander told him to f*** off and not to bother him about his injuries.
Just a flesh wound.
Nah, I’m pretty coherent and in control of my thoughts. I haven’t reached the psychopathic stage yet.
Keep working on it...
Just like old times
