This report evaluates the potential for further escalation in the conflict in Ukraine, including the prospects for escalation to Russian nuclear use. It does so by evaluating Russian and Ukrainian behavior in the conflict to date and identifying and assessing the escalation options still open to both sides. The report is intended to inform U.S. and NATO policymakers as they consider how to avoid further escalation of the conflict while assisting Ukraine in its efforts to defeat the Russian invasion and to better inform the public debate around these issues.

Both Russia and Ukraine may still choose to deliberately escalate the conflict further. Six plausible options for Russian escalation were identified that would have the potential to fundamentally alter the nature of the conflict, ranging from a limited attack on NATO to the use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine. The most likely potential trigger for Russia to escalate the conflict is a perception that battlefield losses are threatening the security of its regime.

I think that the whole strategy with Russia and China etc. etc. is to provoke them to escalate so their escalation can be used to demonize them.
What I find hard to believe is that Russia HASN’T nuked them yet.
But, since ‘We The People’ (who are FUNDING THIS FOLLY) have been LIED TO since DAY ONE, who knows what’s really going on.

That’s what this has been all along. The USA and UK attempting to escalate this so that NATO “has to get involved”.
Their problem is that the rest of NATO don’t have real militaries, the conflict will happen close to their countries, and they don’t want escalation.
We saw this with the Kaliningrad attempted blockage. The USA/UK pushed Lithuania to do the blockade, and the rest of the EU leaned on them and stopped it.
I don’t think Russia will nuke Ukraine.
Why would they?
If they get to that it will be our troops in Poland or, as Putin once said, London.

So, RAND has access to the real history hear and knows that the US has been provoking Russia for years. It was the Brzezinski strategy to do so. So, the US gubmint did not pay for an analysis here. They paid for pitiful transparent and dangerous propoganda. What they are advocating is that NATO escalate the war, but the problem is maintaining NATO cohesion. Poland has fallen off the wagon, Turkey is likely to bail on NATO and Hungary is tired of being treated like a negro slave on the plantation.
Which is why Russia is being pretty quiet while they silently kill lots of Ukrainians pressing the futile idiotic counter-attack. THe alliance is falling apart. The neocons in DC are in disgrace with the American people onto them. German and French goverments are really unpopular. Teenage pranksters are running MI 6. And the White House is a dimentia ward.
The only question is how long Russia is going to put up with taking some miliatarily rather meaningless missile strikes that are starting to do some damage before reminding certain western powers that they can also strike military facilities outside the SMO area and do lost of damage. Do you think that the British and the US don't have ships in construction in drydocks very vulnerable to cruise missile strikes?
