Democrats Are on a Winning Streak That Could Transform Our Politics
The Nation ^ | 9/22/2023 | By John Nichols

In the past few days, Democrats have secured majority control of the Pennsylvania House and moved within one seat of ending Republican control of the New Hampshire House. Those wins are not aberrations. They are the latest measures of a nationwide blue wave that has seen Democrats outperform expectations in 24 of 30 special elections for open state legislative seats this year. Legislative contests that were once considered local or regional races are being nationalized, as concerns about abortion rights and voting rights—two issues that are up for grabs in statehouses—are putting Republican candidates in a perilous position.

The numbers back up Williams’s assessment. On average, according to a fresh assessment by the data crunchers at FiveThirtyEight, Democrats are finishing 11 points better than the historic voting patterns of their districts would have predicted. That doesn’t mean that they are winning every race; sometimes, they are merely closing the gap in heavily Republican districts. But in other cases, Democrats are flipping Republican seats and raising the prospect that they will take control of legislative chambers that are currently controlled by the GOP.

Definitely a joke. I was just surprised that the previous poster said it’s impossible for a president to get 74 million. Kinda shocked me to be honest.

I think you completely overstate the emotional stuff.

Men and women are different. We have to recognize that. Naturally, women prefer big government. We have dismantled the nuclear family. So what's left? Uncle Sam.

It already has. The American voter said, via their votes, in 2008 that put one barrack obama in the White House and again , via their votes, in 2012 that kept him there. That they wanted The United States transformed from a prosperous Nation to a 15th World shit hole. FROM 2016 TO 2020 President Donald Trump attempted to reverse this. But the American voter said loud and clear, }Oh Hell no you don’t!” and unceremoniously kicked him out of Office. And replaced him with Lying Joe Biden. The biggest liar, thief, and child molester in the history of Man. But an individual who is near and dear to the hearts of the American voter. One could even say that they are Blood Brothers. America is now reaping the seeds they so gleefully sowed in 2008, 2012, and 2020.

Totally. I think it started in the 2019 run off elections in Georgia where conservatives didn’t like the candidates and conservative leaders said do not vote in the run off elections. Great strategy. And trump telling republicans to not early vote or use mail ins in 2020 and 2022 were so genius that they ended up doing just that. We need to revamp marketing and getting people to vote anyway they want. Finally trump has awaken and has said mail in and early voting are important tools. Great job Sherlock. Maybe the Republican Party is too old fashioned. We’re definitely looked at by the younger generation as old fuddy duddies. In some ways they are correct.

You are spot on sport. The American people have squandered their freedoms for many decades and are rapidly losing them.

A plurality of problems have converged simultaneously to effect this situation; however, I would argue that the significant contributor, perhaps not so much NH, but PA and elsewhere is having left the border wide open for the last 57 years to 3rd worlders who will always vote hard left no matter how demonstrably bad things are.

Demographics is destiny.

“Shi(f)t Happens!”

But ultimately, this is probably just one step closer to the breakup of America as we currently it. The real question is how violent that breakup will be.

Not necessarily in NH.

The republican house has passed some good measures preventing gun control legislation from passing and and not a,lowing income or sales taxes.

I think we'll be more like Canada. The cost of living will be high. There will be no middle class. We'll all pay a carbon tax.

I am about done with voting. Folks, they cheat and then they brag about it. It is impossible to beat people who have been cheating for years. Each election they up their game.

I am sick of blaming ourselves for playing fair. You can’t get many to want to run and go to the trouble if they know they are going to be cheated by one party and then maligned by the other who is mad because they were cheated again and won’t admit it nor will they do anything about it.
