In the past few days, Democrats have secured majority control of the Pennsylvania House and moved within one seat of ending Republican control of the New Hampshire House. Those wins are not aberrations. They are the latest measures of a nationwide blue wave that has seen Democrats outperform expectations in 24 of 30 special elections for open state legislative seats this year. Legislative contests that were once considered local or regional races are being nationalized, as concerns about abortion rights and voting rights—two issues that are up for grabs in statehouses—are putting Republican candidates in a perilous position.

The numbers back up Williams’s assessment. On average, according to a fresh assessment by the data crunchers at FiveThirtyEight, Democrats are finishing 11 points better than the historic voting patterns of their districts would have predicted. That doesn’t mean that they are winning every race; sometimes, they are merely closing the gap in heavily Republican districts. But in other cases, Democrats are flipping Republican seats and raising the prospect that they will take control of legislative chambers that are currently controlled by the GOP.

“One word. Abortion.”
And trump…..trump is a mobilizer and boogeyman for the left. If we nominate him again we will lose the entire government for years if not forever
Nailed it. Even if he doesn’t directly kill the 2nd his successor, Newsom, will.
Thankfully Trump will be in prison most likely anyway.
It was a mistake to overturn Roe vs Wade, as simple as that.

Oh please....such whininess.
The issue is where it always should have been. Getting your thong in a wad over that is ridiculous. The country has changed and is still changing. When Republicans lose next it will be because they voted to cut spending, shore up voting procedures (perceived as racist/homophobic/transphobic, etc.) or mistreated illegal immigrants (migrants to your Left-wing friends). They will always find a reason to blame loses on the Right. But let’s just real (and I mean really real...not all this abortion nonsense). The culture has changed. The US has changed. It things may not get better. There was a point where even Rome started it’s downward trend...slow (and with a few up cycles) but still long-term down. At some point your honest, hard-working (and just decent folks) are either going to leave or just not come here any more.
Good picture. Very true.

If men IN GENERAL* returned to the traditional, old-school masculinity, women wouldn’t NEED to vote, because the men would vote sanely and stand by their women.
JMO.
*FReeper men are already there. :-)
Democrats have secured majority control of the Pennsylvania.
Fetterman country
It’s unfortunate that you feel that way. Surely you’d miss the votes of all of those right-leaning women capable of being rational and looking at things logically, at least in some areas of the country where those votes are needed most.
I don’t much want men making decisions for me. Talk about losing autonomy.
People who don’t vote have no right to complain how things turn out politically, so are we allowed to complain when others make sh¡t decisions on our behalf, with no ability to provide input of our own? I’m guessing not.
The issue with women tending to lean left is thanks, mostly, to public schooling and the media pushing the idea of, “toxic masculinity”, which is also pushed in schools. They force everything to the left, and that doesn’t just apply to women. My ex from high school is a rabid leftist. He never grew up, and neither did any of my friends from that period, 95% of whom are male.
I no longer associate with them. They couldn’t put politics aside to enjoy mutual hobbies and interests.
You’ll have to shoot me if you want to stop me from voting.
From the very beginning of the nation, the requirement to pay taxes in order to vote was consistent in every state. The thinking is that people who fund the government should have a say in how it operates, and those who do not should not.
I think this is perfectly reasonable, and if women pay taxes, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't also be able to vote. The payment of taxes indicates that someone has sufficient understanding of how things work to make rational decisions regarding the larger regulatory bodies of our society.
He never grew up, and neither did any of my friends from that period, 95% of whom are male.
Do they pay taxes? Much of the problems of our society could be eliminated if the voting franchise was limited to *ONLY* people who pay taxes. Allowing non taxpayers to vote creates a perverse incentive to spend money by the governments.
Yes, there are idiot leftist tax payers, but do they outnumber sane ones? I doubt it.
1984 is a great book but The Bible is better.
Just as they did 100 years ago, when Warren Harding was elected. Funny how history repeats itself, right Mr. Santayana?
Uh, border invaders for the call a spade a spade folks.
