Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced on Friday that he is switching parties from a Democrat to a Republican.
Johnson announced the change in an op-ed that was published in the Wall Street Journal on Friday.
"Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary. When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican," Johnson wrote.
Prior to being elected the mayor of Dallas in 2019, Johnson represented Dallas in the Texas Legislature for nine years as a Democrat.
"I was never a favorite of the Democratic caucus, and the feeling was mutual," Johnson wrote.

One thing we do know, is he’s a politician jockeying for position.
At least he left the rat party behind.
It’s always nice to see folks abandoning the party of slavery, Jim Crow and the kkk.
It will be an easy transition
Just another Assistant Democrat?
self identifies as a Republican
Is there a RINO radar like gaydar?
He is looking at running for higher office, unfortunately it’s in a Republican district...... well Maybe not so unfortunately now.... 🧐
This is the guy who has been held up as a Democrat Mayor exemplar who was able to keep crime from going bonkers in his city, right?
I read the op-ed he wrote.
“The future of America’s great urban centers depends on the willingness of the nation’s mayors to champion law and order and practice fiscal conservatism. Our cities desperately need the genuine commitment to these principles (as opposed to the inconsistent, poll-driven commitment of many Democrats) that has long been a defining characteristic of the GOP. In other words, American cities need Republicans — and Republicans need American cities.”
I applaud the spirit of his message here but too many Republicans fall short on these ideals too.
It must hurt the FR trolls to lose one of their own.
The only way up for a mayor from Dallas is to run statewide in Texas with an R next to your name.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner!
“It will be an easy transition”
I see what you’re saying there! ;)
He’ll be the same package in a different wrapper.
Dems: Quick gin up the faulse hate crimes. Black men are drifting GOP. Black Women are hopless.
