Why is DeSantis tanking?

WHY IS DESANTIS TANKING? A new poll Wednesday from the University of New Hampshire shook up the world of political obsessives who watch each twist and turn in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. No, there was no change at the top — former President Donald Trump is still in the lead in New Hampshire, 26 points ahead of the nearest competitor. The news was that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), for a long time Trump's chief rival, has slipped to fifth place in New Hampshire, the second state to vote in the GOP primary contest.

Fifth place! How did that happen? How did DeSantis come to trail not only Trump, with 39% of the vote, but, in order, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, with 13%; former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, with 12%; and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, with 11%? DeSantis's 10% of the vote in New Hampshire puts him at what might be called the bottom of the second tier. The first tier, of course, is Trump all by himself. The second tier is the group from Ramaswamy to DeSantis. After that, the third tier is Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), with 6%, former Vice President Mike Pence, with 2%, and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) and former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, with 1% each.

The first thing to consider is whether the new Granite State poll is an outlier. The answer is, it appears not. There haven't been many polls in New Hampshire — just one so far this month, two in August, and three in July — but DeSantis has been bobbing around between 8% and 11% since the summer. Before that, in polls going back to January, he was significantly higher.

There are multiple reasons. How they precisely fit together hardly matters.

Briefly, he’s not Trump, he’s not Reagan, and even if he isn’t actual GOPe, he has enough talent in shooting himself in the foot to pass as a natural.

Because he shouldn’t have run and he surrounded himself with McRomBushes.

It’s like he didn’t want to wait his turn. Many saw him as a potential candidate for ‘28 after Trump was finished. Either the establishment got to him or he was one of them all along and had us fooled. He has been a good governor I believe.

When he was doing “better” he had a fair number of supporters who were really supporting “not Trump”. Now that he has fallen in with the pack, he loses votes to other “not Trump”.

IMHO DeSantis would be in first place if Trump gets taken out by the Xiden's Dept of Injustice. DeSantis' track record as governor makes him attractive to those of us who lean Trump (IMHO) if we're forced to pick somebody else.

So it's probably wise for DeSantis to stay in the race in case they wind up putting Trump in handcuffs.

Anyone running right now should be running with an eye to 2028 and the possibility that Trump may either be incapacitated in some sense or die.

Attacking him hard head on with the belief that one may overtake him is DSM worthy.

Because to two reasons in my opinion: Firstly, the people who are backing him are swamp creatures, Secondly, because he did not give Trump any thanks for helping him become Gov. He could have been more gracious and supportive.

Why is DeSantis tanking?

1. He’s an Ivy League lawyer.
2. He has never worked outside government.
3. He began campaigning for President before he even showed up for his first day of work after his re-election as governor of Florida. When that happened, even most of his strong supporters saw him as a con artist and an opportunistic phony.

Serious question, will Trump be prevented from running by all of the lawfare being thrown at him? Will he be incarcerated, unjustly so, but incarcerated?

“Why is DeSantis tanking?”

1. He’s not Trump

2. He’s not MAGA

3. He attacks Trump

4. He’s backed by anti-Trump/RINO/GOPe advisors and mega-donors

5. He’s revealed himself to be little more than your standard politician once he got on the national stage

6. He’s got a low level of charisma

7. His campaign itself has been abysmal, apparently from being poorly run

8. People on the right aren’t as stupid as the RINO/GOPe party like to believe

9. People who pay attention realize all of the above

No idea.

Personally, I think nothing short of a serious health issue will stop him from trying to run, and incarceration alone likely wouldn’t stop him.

It was obvious early on(check my comments) that vivek and Nikki Haley would play well in the debates. I predicted both of them. I’m also going to suggest that Tim Scott will be the “Challenger” in Iowa

Because Republicans wanted him to wait until 2028.

Because Republican voters decided to make the re-election of President Trump as a symbolic message that they're angry at DC and their self-serving abuses of power.

Because they wanted Governor DeSantis to remain in Florida and deliver it to President Trump, with all the accolades and future support that would go with it for a 2028 run of his own.

Because Republican voters think that DeSantis squandered a potential gift horse that was going to be handed to him.

One thing someone said the other day, these are similar conditions to 2015-2016 when Trump won. Extended economic woes, endless wars, oppressive government, no border, etc...
