Ron DeSantis' descent continues, unabated by the debate and time on the trail

Ron DeSantis' long slide continues.

The Florida governor, once seen as the top rival to former President Donald Trump in the 2024 GOP primary, sits in fifth place in New Hampshire, according to a CNN poll released Wednesday. He hasn't visited the state, which holds the nation's second contest, in more than a month.

A Washington Post/Monmouth Survey of South Carolina voters earlier this month found him in only slightly better stead — fourth place — trailing Trump and a pair of home-state candidates, Nikki Haley and Tim Scott.

Earlier this week, he held a fundraiser for his leadership PAC and campaign in oil-rich Midland, Texas, which featured several former Trump donors. He continues fundraising in Texas on Thursday.

“His campaign needs a kick in the ass,” one DeSantis ally said. “It’s dead in the water.”

DeSantis' poor poll-showing in South Carolina and New Hampshire — where he not only trails Trump but is now stuck in the pack with businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Haley and former Gov. Chris Christie — comes after allies had hoped his performance in the first GOP debate last month would arrest a summer swoon. It also comes as his campaign and super PAC have focused attention on Iowa, which holds its caucuses at the start of the primary season on Jan. 15.

But his numbers in Iowa, where Trump campaigned Wednesday, haven't rebounded. Though he remains in second place in the state, he was at 14% in each of the last two independent polls there — with Trump right around the 50% mark.

"He can't win Iowa. He can't win New Hampshire, can't win SC," Trump campaign co-chair Chris LaCivita said in a text message. "The strategy his campaign verbalized last week — of not having to win any state — is coming to fruition."

The laws of physics hold true; once a Meatball begins rolling downhill, it picks up velocity.

The people posting articles like this every day must really want him out of the running. Why?

And we have articles posted every day showing the latest polls.

And then people start arguing about the accuracy of polls.

It is just a daily thing we see where we have more and more stories about the DeSantis campaign not catching fire.

The problem with DeSantis is he is delusional. He was a good governor but everything people like about Florida was already there, the no income taxes, the weather, the beaches, etc. He did some good things like cutting spending. But he listened to the donors, the Bush crowd who told him he was the guy and should get in. The donors are always wrong. It turns out he is a bad presidential campaigner and is more of a local regional guy. Now he has ruined any chance he had for 2028. None of the donors will want to go with him again. He should have waited 4 or 8 years and honed his skills.

Gotta laugh at that nickname and chart, even though I’m an Italian.

Still, it seems to me, we in Florida are headed for the same fate which has befallen Texas regarding uncontrolled invasion at the border encouraged and dictated by a federal government vengeful and vindictive toward any governor who supports constitutional law.

Does DeSantis have what it takes to save Florida from a similar fate? He should be doing the job we elected him to do instead of using the office as a stepping stone.

You don’t have to be a border state anymore to be targeted by the feds for population change. Just being red will do.

Not catching fire? He’s certainly no Mockingjay.

And he’s not a daisy at all.

I am very sorry our governor embarked on this fools errand! How he failed to recognize that after all the evil attempts made to remove a candidate from the ballot that President Trump deserves the chance to restore this nation and to get revenge against the forces of evil!

The kid from Florida is performing poorly.(As I expected.)
He said he’s not a #2, but it appears that he may well be a #3, #4, or #5.(At least in New Hampshire)

It’ll only get worse, not better for the DeSantis campaign.

I remember Ron DeSantis. He used to be a candidate 3 or 4 or 5 months ago. He was going to run against Trump. He is still running I believe, and I don’t know why. He has dropped to 5th place in New Hampshire. Before the debate I said he was going to third or fourth place. Now he is behind Chris Christie. It’s not easy to get behind Chris Christie. It’s tough to get that low, but to get even lower than Chris Christie? Give Desantis some credit. That was some real effort on his part to get that low.
