Just hours after a government spending deal was brokered between members of the House Freedom Caucus and the Republican Main Street Caucus, several hard-line conservatives have come out in opposition to the proposal, ultimately putting its passage in peril less than two weeks before an expected government shutdown.
Congress has until Sept. 30 to pass some form of spending legislation, but intraparty tensions and disagreements in the House have complicated those efforts over the last two weeks. In light of this, six members from the Main Street Caucus and the Freedom Caucus worked since Tuesday to negotiate a continuing resolution that conservatives could get behind. The deal was announced Sunday night and included the House’s border security bill passed earlier this year, as well as spending cuts.

The "continuing resolution" neuters the power of the purse for the House of representatives. That is what it is designed to do.
Without the power of the purse, the bureaucrats have no realistic check on their power.
Regaining the power of the purse means the House regains some real political power.
I wonder if the Republicans got the message this summer?
That message is quite clear, “ Either do something or plan on losing the majority in ‘24.”
Matt Gaetz is aware of this as are a lot the others, they can start by firing McCarthy.
McCarthy doesn’t need Republicans. He’ll get Democrats.
Cut spending or shut down the government.
Yep, McCarthy just needs a handful of Republicans to do the biding of Hakeem Jeffries, who just happens to be the real Speaker of the House.
Remember when they promised to pass spending bills as required and not do omnibus bills. How many have they passed?
Remind me please...
When was the last time an actual budget was passed?
...and...
Who,in their personal finances, could go that long without a household budget and stay out of debt, or other financial problems?
Adults line up to oppose stopgap funding deal, making passage difficult.
Didn’t McCarthy say, in the past, that we were not going to do these continuing resolutions or stop gap spending bills anymore?
If so, then how do we find ourselves back at such a point now?
And now, we see the media and Democrats ready to pounce and blame the GOP for the potential government shutdown.
That should be the choices. This crap about a CR, whether from the Freedom Caucus or McCarthy is defeat. The Freedom/Mainstreet Cauci CR cuts 8% of Pelosi’s spending. That leaves 92% funding for all their new commie programs. It leaves 92% funding to weaponized government. Those are not cuts. Concurrently, it takes away all leverage of a government shutdown. Real appropriations bills need to pass and until that occurs government needs to be shuttered. By the way, the definition of real appropriation bills is cutting $2 trillion in government spending. If parts of government can’t be funded with those cuts, so be it. Given me two hours and I will thoughtfully make a list of the government organizations that should be permanently shuttered.
There is no fight in McCarthy. All he wants is his tummy scratched.
Because Congress is not about what is good for the country or your constituents, it's about personal power and prestige of being American royalty AND more importantly, about enriching yourself to the tune of millions.
