Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko on Friday ordered the closure of 74 churches belonging to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), citing its alleged “direct ties” to the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Klitschko’s decree is similar to that used to seize the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, or Monastery of the Caves, which Ukrainian police stormed last month. The world-famous holy site, which is nearly 1,000 years old, was handed over to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, a rival organization set up by the government in 2018.

You do know that the Russian Federation is commonly referred to as Russia, right?
But perhaps you also believe that Radio Free Europe, and Radio Liberty don't represent the viewpoint of the US government, and if you are that naive, then RT is also "autonomous" even though everybody working there gets paid by the Russian government.
Why are you so upset about some churches changing their affiliation from one Orthodox group to another, but you apparently don’t have any problem with Russia’s destruction of hundreds of churches in Ukraine, and ongoing repression of Protestant religious groups.

Although...is the condition for allowing a church to stay open pledging loyalty to the state? If so, Zelensky is continuing to become increasingly more like Putin - if he is going to become as oppressive as Putin, might as well just let him take over without all of the carnage.
