Some demonstrators defiantly wore holstered handguns on their hips or carried rifles in a Tuesday rally by gun-rights advocates, protesting Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s surprise order to suspend the right to carry firearms after two children were recently killed in separate shootings.
The rally unfolded on Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza shortly before New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez announced he cannot defend the governor’s public health order on firearms, furthering a divide between the state’s top-ranked elected Democrats.
Meanwhile, a U.S. District Court judge in Albuquerque is set to hold a hearing on Wednesday on whether to issue a temporary restraining order halting enforcement of governor’s public health order, which was issued Sept. 7. A total of six federal lawsuits have been filed so far challenging the legality of the gun restriction. A court docket sheet shows all of the cases have been assigned to U.S. District Judge David Urias of Albuquerque, who is expected to hear arguments in the cases beginning at 1 p.m.
Many of the dozens of people gathered in Albuquerque on Tuesday wore T-shirts in support of the right to bear arms, while others waved American flags and held signs reading: “Do Not Comply.” They ranged from military veterans to mothers.
Alicia Otero, whose son was killed in 2021, held a poster that included a photo of 24-year-old Elias Otero and the words “I blame the shooter! Not the gun!”
“I’m here because I’m against gun violence and I’ve been crying to our governor to make changes and to hold the offenders accountable and now that she made this new order, it’s unfair to us because we’re scared,” she said. “After things like this happened, we need to protect ourselves and now she’s taking that away from us.”

Looks like their trial balloon is taken the same course as its protégé The Hindenburg. And is suffering the same consequences.

Far-left slobs are in a big hurry to start confiscating guns. AMERICANS ARE STARTING TO SHOOT BACK.
You guys, we’re keeping you in our prayers. We know most of NM is awesome but hoe-lee crap the voters in Abq are screwing it up beyond belief.
Like Filthedelphia screws over Pennsylvania. I feel their pain!!!!!!!!!!!
Like LV and Reno screw the rest of NV. GRRRRRRRR!
Yep, the Governor wasn’t supposed to signal the Left’s true intentions.
She admitted that she was fully aware criminals would not comply with a ban.
This was for normal law-abiding citizens.
This is “emergency” exemplifies the reason why government should never have the power to call a state or emergency. Never.
Someone has to confront her with this: “How was this so-called emergency caused by legal gun carriers? Are you are okay with more kids being shot by criminals when law-abiding legal carrying citizens are rendered unable to stop them?”
Ok, we’ve heard from the AG and the Sheriff.
What does the Chief of Police say?
As I understand it, not even the state police are supporting this ban. As well, the AG of New Mexico will not give her cover and defend her in court.
She’s politically out waving in the breeze which is quickly becoming a Cat 5 hurricane. Will she find any attorney willing to defend her? Will she survive? Can she afford the personal financial losses?
(rubs hands together) The schadenfreude is strong with this one.
It is not enough. The Governor must be removed from office and never permitted to be in a government position again.
There must be real consequences when officials willfully attempt to breach the Constitutional restraints on government powers. Ejection from office is a real consequence and is the minimum that should follow. Arrest, convictions, and jail terms would be even better.
Kick them right to the curb. It is the only way to get their colleagues attention.
Duh
Hitler Libtard Governor
“You guys, we’re keeping you in our prayers.’
Second.
The ABQ Chief of Police also says he won't enforce it.
