Democrats hung on to a state Assembly seat in Queens in a competitive special election Tuesday in which the city’s migrant crisis was the dominant issue.
Democrat Sam Berger defeated Republican David Hirsch in the 27th Assembly District that runs through central and northeastern Queen neighborhoods from parts of Forest Hills to Kew Garden Hills and from College Point to Whitestone.
Berger garnered 2,447 votes, or 55%, to 1,979 votes, or 45%, for Hirsch, who also ran on the Conservative Party line, according to the city Board of Elections tally with 99% of the scanners reported.
The victory is a relief for nervous Democrats, who feared that voters would punish them for the migrant crisis with their standard bearers in control of City Hall, Albany and the White House.

It means that the public has been indoctrinated to believe voting for a Republican is the same as voting for a Nazi. It further means that the public is stupid beyond redemption.

55% to 45% is pretty overwhelming to me.
45% is pretty good. Not the usual blowout.
Based on other numbers in the article, this was a 7% turnout.
Dems probably through away the bulk of the repub votes.

My thought as well.
In this district, a Republican getting 45% is a major improvement.
This means that most Republicans vacated New York City a long time ago.
Trump may not have a chance no matter what.
Must not be that big of a crisis then.

That’s why we didn’t, initially, have universal voting.
This is a district which is over 3-1 Democratic in voter registration. Both of the candidates and the representative who quit were Jewish.
