~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Yakima Training Center, Washington

WAtbyakima4

The Yakima Training Center (YTC) is a United States Army training center, used for maneuver training, Land Warrior system testing and as a live fire exercise area. It is located in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Washington, bounded on the west by Interstate 82, on the south by the city of Yakima, on the north by the city of Ellensburg and Interstate 90, and on the east by the Columbia River. It is a part of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Yakima Training Center provides training support for transient units and organizations by sustaining training lands, range complexes, and support facilities in order to enhance readiness. The installation's customers include not only the Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Army National Guard units, but also U.S. Special Operations Command, Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard units, plus local and federal law enforcement agencies and allied forces from Canada and Japan.

Major improvements to the installation increased its capability to support training. Another major range project, the Multi-Purpose Training Range, was completed; 250 miles of high quality road were constructed; a state-of-the-art Wash Rack facility, a new fuel facility, and an expanded Ammunition Supply Point enhanced the expanded maneuver area.

The Yakima center differs in that its open space offers commanders more freedom to plot exercises as they want, said Jim Reddick, a 24-year employee of the training center who now serves as its civilian executive officer.

The center has supported maneuvers involving more than 15,000 personnel.

The National Guard can routinely bring in 5,000. The center is averaging about 2,200 soldiers a day right now, with fixed barracks for 2,500.

Thanks for tonight's Road Trip, Lauren!

I spent many a hot day and cold night riding those dusty tank trails at YTC back in the day.

She’ll be with me as long as I’m above ground. After that remains to be determined but I’ve got hope.

Hi radu!

An uneventful weekend like most, LOL.

Did my usual Sunday visit to see Robin, son and the pups.

I am enjoying the college football season that's underway, fun to watch the kids play.

How was your weekend (and the kittehs)?

Spent a couple weeks there back in 76. Had to set up and operate a command post for a temporary runway for C130 aircraft.

Fun trip. Boss wasn’t too particular about how we set up the camp as long as his comms worked. Boss was a Good Guy.

Dry, dusty. When the tanks went by the dust hung in the air seems like forever.

Be Still
Read: Psalm 37:5–7

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Psalm 37:7

After I’d gotten settled into the chamber, my body floating comfortably above the water, the room went dark and the gentle music that had been playing in the background went silent. I’d read that isolation tanks were therapeutic, offering relief for stress and anxiety. But this was like nothing I’d ever encountered. It felt like the chaos of the world had stopped, and I could clearly hear my innermost thoughts. I left the experience balanced and rejuvenated, reminded that there is power in stillness.

We can rest most comfortably in the stillness of the presence of God, who renews our strength and grants us the wisdom we need to tackle the challenges we face each day. When we’re still, silencing the noise and removing distractions in our lives, He strengthens us so we can hear His gentle voice more clearly (Psalm 37:7).

While sensory deprivation chambers are certainly one form of stillness, God offers us a simpler way to spend uninterrupted time with Him. He says, “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father” (Matthew 6:6). God will guide our steps and allow His righteousness to shine brightly through us when we seek the answers to life’s challenges in the stillness of His magnificent presence (Psalm 37:5–6).Kimya Loder

What are some things that consume your time? How can you make more room for quiet time with God?

Dear Father, I know I get caught up in the fast pace of life. Help me to be still, making room for You in everything I do.

For further study, read In His Presence: Spending Time with God.

Bible in a year: Proverbs 13–15; 2 Corinthians 5
