This Swing-State Senate Primary Will Test Whether Republicans Can Quit MAGA
Yahoo News ^ | 9/8/23 | Liz Skalka

Michigan, home to one of the most MAGA-crazed GOP bases in the country, is set to host the premier Senate showdown between loyalists to former President Donald Trump and establishment Republicans focused on electability above all else.

At stake is whether Republicans can successfully expand the Senate map to Michigan, where Democrats have mostly coalesced behind Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the race to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow. Establishment Republicans in Washington, D.C., and in Michigan think they’ve found the candidate — former House Intelligence Committee chairman and Trump skeptic Mike Rogers — to turn the blue-tinted swing state into a battleground.

The question facing Rogers, and the GOP more broadly, is whether the party’s voters have learned from their mistakes in 2022, when they nominated hardcore MAGA candidates in several battleground states who couldn’t win a general election. The lesson should be particularly acute in Michigan, where Democrats last year easily defended their statewide trifecta after Republicans went full MAGA with their nominees.

Establishment Republicans see Rogers as a solid choice for Michigan’s purple electorate, giving the party perhaps its best shot at flipping a critical seat. The party’s base, however, could prefer two more explicitly “Make America Great Again”-aligned candidates, including a former Detroit police chief who seems all but certain to run and to court Trump’s support.

Because the ideology of "making America great again" must be abandoned right??

To return to the ideology of "whatever's best for some other worthless country"

If its not a Gretchen Whitmer flying monkey the electorate in michigan will vote for it in the general election. If the auto strike ends up being more than 4 weeks the local economic impact will extend way past 2024. Yes I know Gretchen Whitmer has nothing to do with the auto industry but the democratic vote depends on union adjacent turnout. The spouses and children of auto workers are going to feel awfully not supported by the DNC if the collection of strikes goes long.

As we see from our local auto dealers inventory level and not doing anything about it aug, the strike is 4 - 6 months in their book.

Well, it sounds like the people of Michigan have a choice in the upcoming primary, PICK a GOPe ESTABLISHMENT SQUISH or MAGA Republican. Choose Wisely.

Remember, if you choose MAGA, the GOPe will NOT support you in November and will most likely secretly provide support ($$$$) to the DEMOCRAT. I wonder just how many MAGA candidates were SABOTAGED by the GOPe Establishment in 2022.

“Bad news for Mike, we conservatives of Michigan do not support you.”

Yeah I don’t see the people going back.

I live in New England, and in primary after primary last year, the Republican electorate chose the more conservative candidate, to the absolute horror of pantywaist Establishmentarians.

They all lost of course (with the help of said Establishmentarians, to set the narrative that “only moderates can win”).

But the electorate isn’t falling for the old games anymore. We want REAL opposition to Democrats. No more “me-too” Republicans.

read between the lines people

The other side is getting ready for a bad outcome. They talk about Biden being too old, too weak, and too out of touch. Maybe they’ll replace him. But, whether or not they replace Biden, they’re telling their people to get ready for a loss of the White House. This article talking about the Michigan Senate race is the first saying the same thing about other races. They’ll be more. The fundamentals are very bad for the incumbent party. Continuing inflation and a soft economy. A directionless foreign policy. Illegal immigration and rising crime, homelessness and just plain filth. So, the other side is starting to speculate about how bad things can get. What kind of Republicans will take over, for example.

Here’s what I say: #1 take care of business in the states where elections are being held this year (KY, LA, MS, NJ and VA).

#2 help the Green Party get on the ballot (there are petition drives right now in AZ, AK and NV and the Greens could use some help). Trump would have won in 2020 except the Democrats kept Kanye West and the Green Party off the ballot in the crucial states of AZ, GA and WI. The Democrats are trying to block No Labels and the Green Party this year. The Democrats may be evil, but they’re not stupid. They do their prep work in the off-season. Let’s lend a hand to the Greens where that can help.

#3 look all up and down the ballot. Vivek Ramswamy thinks he’ll start at the top, without any meaningful executive experience in or out of government. You be realistic. Consider school board, town council, county board of supervisors; heck, local board of elections or dog catcher (do we have any elected dog catchers in the country any more?). Or, support a good person who steps up to the challenge.

“...when they nominated hardcore MAGA candidates in several battleground states who couldn’t win a general election...”

Meanwhile, democrats run the most wild, hard core communist thugs in battleground states (Ralph Warnock in Georgia, Fetterman in Pennsylvania) and that’s perfectly fine with Liz Skalka. Why is that? Could it be because of the media bias that gives the rat candidate 100% favorable publicity?

It’s an easy call. If it’s between a rabid anti Trump Rats and a Rabid anti Trump Repuke the Rat is ALWAYS preferable.

MAGA believes in government of, by and for the people.

The Swamp believes in government of, by and for The Swamp.
