A New Jersey business owner used a drone to drop damaging dye into pools at homes and a motel in Atlantic County in recent weeks, authorities said.
Patrick Spina IV, 45, of Absecon, was arrested at his business in Galloway on Friday after Absecon police and other law enforcement agencies tracked the drone back to Comfort Solutions Heating and Cooling, officials said.
Absecon police began investigating Aug. 13 after homeowners called to say a drone hovering over their pool dropped a dye into it. The dye turned the pool water “an alarming shade of green.”
Police then got reports from other homeowners also saying the dye discolored their pools.
Absecon police charged Spina shortly after the drone stuck again on Friday, dropping the dye into the pool at the Quality Inn in Galloway. Police took Spina into custody after seeing the drone land at his business on White Horse Pike.

Nice pool ya got there...
Drumming up business.
I remember when I bought a new home in a subdivision. One day some mice showed up in my garage (later learned it also happened to a couple of neighbors) and a couple of days later the subdivision was blanketed in pest control offers. Imagine the coincidence.
And the bad publicity will cause most of his customer base to leave.
He should have landed the drone on his competitor’s property and got them arrested. /Evil Danny mode off
“Apparently, he thought he would get business correcting problems with homwownwer’s and motel’s swimming pools.”
How is it apparent? No one calls an HVAC company for pool service.
What damage? Aesthetics?
Years ago the contractor to repair seats on BART cars was sending out people to slash the seats.

It’s not uncommon among shady “pest inspectors” to bring the pests along with them, hidden in a small box on their person.
Then later it’s, “Look what I found, ma’am. I suggest signing up for our $1200 treatment plan before this gets out of control.”
Buyer beware, indeed.
Why did he do this? Bizarre.
His business, Comfort Solutions Heating and Cooling, was air conditioners and heating. He has nothing to do with pools.
Comfort Solutions Heating and Cooling may be a franchise because there are locations with that name all the United States.
An investigation revealed the colored material is sea dye, a lifesaving marker used during potential water rescues. It contains a fluorescent green dye that spreads over the surface of the water to assist a rescue pilot
Who did he think he was? The government?
Drumming up business.
Our town’s animal control officer was paid $25 for every stray animal caught. He was caught letting people’s dogs out of their yards. We don’t have an animal control officer anymore.
If someone called for treatment, it clued the company in to possible problems elsewhere. You also see that with roofers all the time after a storm.
I had mice. They came from my neighbor’s shed. Those little buggars travel.
Nothing suspicious about it. It’s a common business practice to target-market when you know there is a problem.
LOL That guy needs to call Al immediately.
If he doesn't he may need to call Als' bother-in-law to exterminate all the flying vermin getting through that hole.
One of the credentials I carry is CMPO (Certified Manager of Pool Operations).
Plaster in-ground pools have very strict requirements to stay open. The water must be clear, the bottom drains must be visible, depth marker changes in the pool must be noted (typically by a different color tile on the pool floor, etc.).
Green water typically occurs during an algae bloom when the chemicals are not balanced.
This die may stain the plaster, requiring the pool to be shut down completely, drained, and replastered (big money). Don’t know if it mucked up the filtration system or flow meter.
I would audit every phone call and email this jackwagon made in the last few months. If he was friends with a pool maintenance company, that would be a huge red flag.
Buckle up, Buttercup. You are going to get sued, big time!
I don’t get it though, he has a HVAC company so how would he get business out of it? There are details missing from this story. Probably a neighbor war or something ?
