September 5

“Everything Is against Me”

Bible in a Year:

If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31

“This morning I thought I was worth a great deal of money; now I don’t know that I have a dollar.” Former US president Ulysses S. Grant said those words the day he was swindled out of his life’s savings by a business partner. Months later, Grant was diagnosed with incurable cancer. Concerned about providing for his family, he accepted an offer from author Mark Twain to publish his memoirs, which he completed a week before he died.

The Bible tells us of another person who faced grave hardships. Jacob believed his son Joseph had been “torn to pieces” by a “ferocious animal” (Genesis 37:33). Then his son Simeon was held captive in a foreign country, and Jacob feared his son Benjamin would be taken from him as well. Overcome, he cried out, “Everything is against me!” (42:36).

But it wasn’t. Little did Jacob know that his son Joseph was very much alive and that God was at work “behind the scenes” to restore his family. Their story illustrates how He can be trusted even when we can’t see His hand in our circumstances.

Grant’s memoirs proved to be a great success and his family was well cared for. Though he didn’t live to see it, his wife did. Our vision is limited, but God’s isn’t. And with Jesus as our hope, “if God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). May we place our trust in Him today. .

Reflect & Pray

How have you seen God bring good out of difficulty? Where do you need to trust Him?

Beautiful Savior, please help me keep my eyes on You and not on my problems. You’re always faithful!

I think I have them lined up...got a lot of little things done that “just had to wait”.

I’m actually going to take the evening off. Tomorrow will be a zoo.

How is your mowing project coming along?

Good evening, Mooch...oh no! You get a heat wave, too?

Hope your air conditioner is ready, and up to the task.

Stay cool!

You’re going to take the evening off??? *THUD* That’s definitely not typical for a Monday night. LOL Get to bed early tonight so you’ll be ready for tomorrow’s insanity.

Mowing still at a standstill. Hot and muggy again with no breeze. I ran a couple of errands this afternoon instead. Not sure about tomorrow. One Nashville station says it’ll be in the 90s the next few days, another says mid to upper 80s, a third says upper 80s and a chance for rain tomorrow and a better chance Wednesday. Mowing will depend on who’s right. The weekend will be fabulous so the back yard might not get done until then, after I get home from the museum.

The one good thing about not getting to mow quite as often as I’d like is the yard gets re-seeded every time. LOL It looks better than it has in a long time, with some fairly bare spots all filled in now.
I just wish the yard wasn’t so darn big, or that I could have afforded to buy a larger mower. My back just won’t allow me to mow it all at one time. Oh well, I do what I can do and that has to be good enough. LOL

So you DID get some rain at your house last night, did you? Very good! I don’t know what’s gone on up there today because the cam is having issues that are getting worse. No idea when they’ll get it fixed.

Did you step out for a few minutes this evening to pick up some of the tree trash in the yard?

I did pick up more tree trash. Must have been more wind over night because I had to re-pickup some places. I got most of the big stuff in an area as wide as the deck. Maybe a little pickup each day. 😎

Hey there, radu!

How was your day? Was it a bit cooler? Did you get more mowing done?

We were back over the 100 mark today. Same for the next 5 days at least. Bah!

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

We did a ride in the country yesterday with the A.C on in the pickup. Gizmo sure enjoyed it.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Glad to hear you were able to get a good start on it. And you got outside for some fresh air for a bit. I know too well how frustrating it can be to have to go back to redo an area you’ve already done. grrrrrrrrrrrr It sounds like you already have more than enough to deal with. I hope you can get this mess all cleaned up before the next time it gets so windy. Actually, I hope it doesn’t get that windy again. That was crazy!

Howdy, luvie.

Not cooler today and no mowing was done. I ran a couple of errands and did a little housework. A real exciting day. LOL

Man, those 100s need to leave y’all alone! It’s not that far from Fall now and you need to cool off.
It wasn’t as hot here as it was there but it was plenty uncomfortable. Muggy and no breeze. As I was heading out to town, the guy who bought the woods was here and we talked for a few minutes. Sweat was running down my face the whole time and I was just standing there. I was happy to get in the car with the AC blowing on my face, I tell ya. LOL

We cool off this weekend. I hope you’re lucky enough to cool off too.

Bummer that you didn’t get to finish the rest of the yard, but better to wait and maybe it’ll be a bit cooler when you can get to it.

I’m going to be so shocked when fall really does get here, I won’t know how to act! LOL! Heck, it’s still 87 degrees out there. Sounds more like mid-July rather than September.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Let’s hear it for AC in vehicles! LOL At least you and Gizmo could get away from the house for a bit for a change of scenery.

With luck, I can finish the darn yard tomorrow. I watched three different Nashville stations’ weather reports tonight and all three were different, but two had the temps tomorrow in the upper 80s. All I need is a breeze with that and I can mow tomorrow evening. But if the one that has us in the 90s is right, all bets are off. Worst case is I wait and do it this weekend when it’s cool. No one sees it but me anyway. LOL

87? Ugh!! That’s just too hot. Have the kitties had an appetite tonight?

I just went out and sat on the front porch for a bit, and the 87 didn’t feel half bad with the breeze that was blowing. Our humidity is extremely low right now, so that helped. The kitties were pretty energetic tonight. Like me, I think they’re tired of the bright sunshine. 87 feels different when it’s not blasting sun-lit heat.

Oy. I just looked up and the TV screen had pumpkins in an ad. It hardly seems that time of the year. Kind of took me by surprise. LOL!

Lucky you having a nice breeze. Our air is still and it’s thick and our 74 doesn’t feel all that pleasant. I went out to water plants on the porch and fill an empty hummingbird feeder and decided I didn’t want to sit out there afterwards to enjoy the katydids. I’ll be able to by the end of the week but not tonight.

Glad to hear the kitties are feeling a little frisky tonight.

I can tell you don’t do the grocery shopping. LOL Halloween stuff has been out in stores since last month.
Heck, Christmas stuff will start showing up before Halloween.

Good morning, E...((HUGS))...sounds like you and Gizmo cruising round in the AC was a VERY good idea.

Have a great Tuesday.
