Scientists Discover Amazing Practical Use For Leftover Coffee Grounds
Science Alert ^

We could be producing concrete that's 30 percent stronger by processing and adding charred coffee grounds to the mix, researchers in Australia have discovered.

Their new recipe could solve multiple problems at the same time

Every year the world produces a staggering 10 billion kilograms of coffee waste globally. Most ends up in landfills.

"The disposal of organic waste poses an environmental challenge as it emits large amounts of greenhouse gases including methane and carbon dioxide, which contribute to climate change," explains RMIT University engineer Rajeev Roychand.

Use them to grow oyster mushrooms first, then as compost for the garden where in time more mushrooms will pop up.

Even “organic waste” is being called a global warming problem.

I used to save keurig cups and then as a batch clean all the coffee out of them and use it in the garden. I’d burn the cups.

But it was way too much work.

However, I have a second Keurig in the shop/mancave that uses the really excellent Keurig reusable cup. I use it with the canned Kirkland columbian coffee. Tastes great. I put a wood bar across the “old” tin and bang the cup against it like barista’s do. When full I dump the entire 3 lb can in the garden. I really don’t mind manually filling those cups and it’s definitely more environmentally friendly.

Every year the world produces a staggering 10 billion kilograms of coffee waste globally. Most ends up in landfills.

And it is still going to end up in landfills you dorks because people are not going to save their coffee grounds for weeks before taking them to the "coffee ground processing center"

No. It does not. India is not sending us it's best and brightest.

This article unintentionally highlights the absurdity of the global warming, CO2 hysteria.

Every time a blade of grass, a tree, a mosquito, a glob of algae, bacteria colony, or minnow dies, half its non water mass becomes CO2.

Plants and animals are constantly coming to life and dying in an endless cycle.

Trying to reduce the CO2 that goes into the ocean is like a little kid with a bucket tossing water out of the ocean onto the beach and thinking he is making a difference.

Where I live it’s almost impossible to recycle glass containers. That’s a problem for me now because I go through at least one 16 oz glass bottle of Kombucha a day since my surgery five months ago.

In AZ we have ‘Sonoran Toads’ which are poisonous to dogs. We also use gravel as a ground cover in our planting beds. These toads do not like coffee grounds and are used as a way to keep them away. I dump my coffee grounds each day onto the gravel then hose it down a little so the grounds go down through the gaps in the rock.

There's another use I've been doing for awhile. They stop leaf eating worms right after they hatch. I put them around plants susceptible to those. Doesn't seem to work on adults.
I've seen it help on things like cut worms.

Trees can produce tons of waste in their lifetime and that waste ends up on the ground. It must be stopped. Cut them down now!

Biowaste (kitchen and yard scraps) are gold to your gardens. They should never end up in a landfill or in concrete.

We keep a plastic pail in the kitchen for coffees grounds, vegetable scraps, egg shells, bones after bowling them out, tea, fruit peels, etc... Every few days we add yeast and water, and pour it into the mulch heap, and start again.
