School Board Overrides Procedure, Immediately Removes Vulgar Books After Furious Parents' Ingenious Ploy
Western Journal ^ | 9/1/23 | Michael Shwartz

A brilliant strategy, rooted in both common sense and law, has resulted in a victory for both decency and parental rights.

Moms for Liberty, a conservative group dedicated to defending parents and students against government overreach, capitalized on a new Florida statute and compelled a school board to bypass its own procedures by voting immediately to remove obscene literature from school libraries.

The group’s strategy unfolded in a dramatic way at a school board meeting on Monday in Indian River County, Florida.

According to WEAR-TV in Pensacola, Florida, parents and others affiliated with Moms for Liberty selected books from the county’s school libraries and then read explicit passages aloud at the meeting.

Alas, they had no difficulty finding such books.

Jennifer Pippin, head of the Moms For Liberty Indian River County chapter, told the board that the parents had found the materials simply by “doing keyword searches like rape, incest, pedophilia, bestiality.”

As a result, they uncovered passages that shocked school board members. For instance, one person read aloud from a passage depicting a scene of sexual violence.

“You know you’re supposed to listen when I talk to you? He shoved me to the floor and pulled off my pants,” the passage read.

Indian River County School Board Chairwoman Dr. Peggy Jones interrupted the reading.

“We are adults and if there are children out there. I understand that. I understand that. But we don’t want to be reading that aloud,” Jones said.

Similar exchanges ensued.

TC Palm, a news site covering Indian River and two adjacent counties, reported that other board members echoed Jones’ objection.

“There’s nothing that can justify this being OK,” board member Jacqueline Rosario said. “These books need to be removed immediately.” ... a book-review committee considers the challenge.

Moms for Liberty, however, utilized Florida’s HB 1069

So, until HB1069 was passed school boards can shut down readings from the same filthy obscene taxpayer funded books that are incorporated into the school's curricula. This time they did the right thing went into CYA mode and removed the trash.

The most vulgar of the words need to be painted on the outside of every public building in the municipality and on the approvers’ homes.

If adults can’t say it in a public school board meeting, it can’t be in a public school library for minor children to read.

Basically you’d never be able to give evidence in a school board meeting about them either. They rush to shut people up.

This is always mind boggling when it occurs throughout the country.

1. Pornographic books are in the school library and are available to all children.
2. When a parent reads a passage or a page from a book to the School Board, a board member says “You cannot read that filth in this public meeting because children might be present.”

That is so utterly bizarre and completely devoid of any common sense.

Should the librarians who put them there be removed also?

Good for this win. Though it may just lead to key word searches being changed somehow to enable these sort of books to not be listed as being in the library?

Evil never stops seeking ways and we know education/libraries are infiltrated with willing enablers of indecency.

We need to find more ways to root it out.

From the article- “A good deal of residual credit, however, goes to Florida’s legislators and the state’s anti-woke governor.”

Groups of parents need to become more political, politically organied and get into the local city and county government and
then place school boards under the city/county governments, not “independent” which has for a long time meant unaccountable.

Some people do NOT deserve “representation” in school libraries. Or most anywhere else for that matter.

“We are adults and if there are children out there. I understand that. I understand that. But we don’t want to be reading that aloud,” Jones said.

They don’t want it read because they are caught red handed. These groomers need to be held criminally accountable, lose their jobs and pensions, and have their lives permanently destroyed.

We have to be vicious in our push-back.

I suggest we push back legally so hard, they other side
loses former abilities to push this stuff off on our kids.

Take libraries to task and if possible get their state
funding revoked, for being a sexual predator zone or some
such.

We need to be as creative as they are, and just shut them
down until it hurts and they scream uncle.

And then we push some more and let them know this crap
better not happen again.

Sad that common sense must be forced hard on a school board to do the correct thing.

Moms for Liberty, however, utilized Florida’s HB 1069. Under this new statute, interruptions of public readings require immediate removal of the literature in question from school libraries. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the bill into law in July.

I see no effort to find out how this corrosive filth got into the Libraries in the first place. We do know the ALA like everything else has been hijacked by leftists. This is probably the place to start the trace.

Some key word searches should include “pizza”, “hot dogs”, “cheese”, “fist”, etc...I’m sure there’s many many more

The relevant part of the state statute:
"Parents shall have the right to read passages from any material that is subject to an objection. If the school board denies a parent the right to read passages due to content that meets the requirements under sub-sub-316 subparagraph b.(I), the school district shall discontinue the use of the material".

School boards all over the country were using the same tactic to shut down parents objecting to these materials in schools, and it turns out that the fix just isn't that difficult.

Folks who haven't been that involved in local elections often wonder how a school board can be so at odds with the communities that they serve, and which elect them, but it's actually simple. In most places, the teacher's union is by far the most powerful player, followed closely by the firefighter's unions. There's been an unholy alliance for years between these two groups: the teachers agree to support the absurdly rich compensation packages offered to the firefighters when those votes come up at city council meetings, and the firefighters support the teacher's unions picks for school board. Those elections are often settled by a few dozen votes, so it's not that hard for the interested parties to maintain a stranglehold.

People seem to have finally cottoned on to the rot, but have not yet fully understood the political mechanics behind it. It'll be interesting to see if that changes with groups like the "Moms for Liberty" getting organized.

Why subject children to profanities and obscenities via vandalism of public and private property? Reading aloud at a school board meeting where children are unlikely to be present seems to be the appropriate avenue.

They also deliberately make sure that school board elections are held NOT when other more "important" elections occur (Congress, prez, etc.) to ensure a scant turnout because only the activists are paying attention.
