Kemp denies special session to remove Fulton County district attorney over alleged election interference

Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) said Thursday that there will be no special session of the Georgia State legislature to impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, claiming attempting to do so could be unconstitutional.

Kemp said that despite his own feelings on Willis's investigation into former President Donald Trump and his allies over allegedly working to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, he does not have the power to call a special session.

“We have a law in the state of Georgia that clearly outlines the legal steps that can be taken if constituents believe their local prosecutors are violating their oath by engaging in unethical or illegal behavior,” Kemp said during a news conference Thursday.

So THAT’S IT.

If he is so SCARED, HE SHOULD RESIGN.

Being threatened is blackmail. If he is being blackmail, he is USELESS TO THE PEOPLE IN GEORGIA.

Glad to hear this. Too many in this party are willing to sacrifice all legal and constitutional norms to a cult of personality.

Kemp fears the people who bombed his daughter’s boyfriend’s car more than he fears the Ga voters.

Kemp is the problem in Georgia.

His own involvement is now so obvious he can’t wiggle out.

His state is now a laughingstock - a county DA arrests all of official DC over a phone call? Talk about the mouse that roared.

And Foghorn Leghorn Kemp says no can do on getting rid of said insane DA who has gone beyond all norms and declared herself Queen of the Universe? Well then...get rid of him. That’s probably easier.

Okay, so it will still be before at the trial, right? They could do it on day one if they wanted to. I mean I’m not familiar with all the processes involved with it in Georgia, but I don’t see it happening anyway. Kemp would look pretty foolish bringing back everyone for something that would fail.

He got the message.

He’s so interested in enforcing the law. He wasn’t so interested in October/November 2020.

I don’t believe he actually won the gov. primary here. I believe he was “selected” in return for keeping his mouth shut about the 2020 stolen election.

Won’t they be back in session after Labor Day anyway? Or is the point to bring everybody back for something that won’t pass?

I see you're into identifying things that "won't" happen.

Here's something that "won't" happen, Ron winning the nomination.

I am not defending Kemp or his actions/inactions in this case. And, I am not in GA nor am I familiar with that state’s laws regarding removal of rouge prosecutors. I can only relate the difficulty that MO had in getting DA Kim Gardiner removed.

For those who don’t remember, she was the St Louis DA who prosecuted newly-elected Republican governor Eric Greitens. The first charge was that he took pictures of his restrained hairdresser. Only problem was that the pictures apparently didn’t exist. She then charged him, one day before the statute of limitations kicked in with using a mailing list from his own foundation to help his campaign. In exchange for dropping the charges, Greitens resigned.

The state Attorney General got involved and investigation showed that she broke all kinds of procedural guidelines in going after Greitens. She refused to resign, stating that everything said against her was ‘racist’. Of course she charged the McCloskeys with felonies for displaying firearms when a group of protestors broke into a private, gated community. None of the demonstrators were charged with anything.

She easily won reelection. The state kept going after her. An accused murderer was released when her office neglected to show up at his arraignment. Then another accused murder, out on bail was involved in an incident that left a young woman paralyzed. She still refused to resign.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was when it was discovered and publicized that she was out of the office to take classes at a nursing school.

It took something like four years for a very determined Republican-led state government to get rid of her. It may well be just as difficult to do something similar in GA.
