In remarks to the Warren County GOP in Indianola, Iowa, Vivek Ramaswamy took questions from voters.

There is no consensus on the definition of natural born citizen. There is no definitive court decision on that subject.
In the absence of such definitive definition which would show Vivek to be unqualified, Vivek can run for president.
He wants to cut Israel off.
Vivek Ramaswamy’s parents were unquestionably not citizens of the United States when he was born. He has no more right to run for president than a child of an ambassador or their staff.
This issue of natural born citizenship is discussed a lot on Free Republic. You have presented one argument. Other Freepers often say that being born in America makes one natural born. Because such citizens did not need to go through the naturalization process to become citizens. And that viewpoint is that, if you didn’t have to be naturalized, then you are natural born
There is no Free Republic consensus on the definition of natural born citizenship.
Many if not most 1st Americans have mild accents because their parents have heavy accents.
I once had a young blonde Russian student with a Mexican accent because that’s where his parents emigrated first. They left Mexico because there was no difference between narco mafia corrupt government and commie thug corrupt government.
Ramaswamy’s debating MO was a cinch.....to act like an overcaffeinated version of Sen. Ted Cruz.
Press and social media observations were not what one would consider flattering:
“astoundingly arrogant,” “irritating,” “glib,” “smarmy,” “obnoxious,” “a zero,” “preening.”
Annoying. Irritating. Glib. Got it.
It was the consensus that the guy behaved like a jackass.
It wasn’t just liberals dissing the smug know-it-all.
The other Republicans on the debate stage seemed genuinely miffed at his presence there.
Is he running for office or looking to land a talk show?
The format of that so-called “debate” encouraged that kind of behavior.
I would like to see his demeanor in a more traditional debate setting.
Right, my understanding is that his parents needed to be-in country legally— which they were. Alternatively could be born overseas but have parents who are citizens.
I also believe this has been settled in court.
Imagine if Biden took questions, ever, at any time, from anybody. He’s over two years in and nobody is even saying that he’s never held a real press conference. Talk about protecting this guy, sheesh.
I’m fine with cutting Israel off. We don’t need 3.5 billion with strings, nor do we need our enemies constantly throwing that up in our face. It’s, like, 1% of our total budget. We never used those loan guarantees that Bush 41 was making such a big deal about, either. They’re still unused. Keep the money. But I’m a Trump-ist to the bone, so I would never consider supporting Ramaswamy. But he does say some interesting things that engender thought. And thought is what the world needs now, not people looking for others to think for them.
“The best lack all conviction. While the worst are filled with a passionate intensity.”
“… (Vivek Ramaswamy’s parents were NOT U.S. citizens when he was born).”
So, that would mean that no child born in America of foreign born parents (who were non citizens when they arrived—which is all of them) can ever grow up to become president? Some, who hypothetically, could be asked to defend the country in war by serving in the military? Hmmm…
Way to welcome prospective citizens.
Sounds like a great PR man for Trump. Trump needs a PR man who's not afraid to go on offense.
I don’t have a problem with him. He is gold compared to the rest of the yuks in that debate.
Only by comparison. He announces publicly what he will do to end the Ukraine war, and thereby undermines his own putative effort before it even starts. Not smart.
“He wants to cut Israel off.”
That’s not what he said.
B-but Haji had magic powers to make ropes come to life and do stuff, whenever he and Johnny Quest were in a tight scrape. Maybe he can “sim sim salabim” away the national debt.
Pretty sure he is NOT Natural Born Citizen, either
Way to welcome prospective citizens.
If the Founding Fathers wouldn't let foreigners who fought for the independence of this country serve as President, no, no foreigner, regardless of their military service should ever be President of the United States.
Vivek Ramaswamy's parents were NOT U.S. citizens when he was born.
Irrelevant.
"All persons born ... in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States...."
The irrelevant status of the parents is not mentioned.
Chester Arthur and Kamala Harris had one or more non-citizen parents and became Vice-President. Chester Arthur and Barack Obama had one or more non-citizen parents and became President.
14A did not change birth citizenship. It placed it beyond the power of Congress to change.
It’s moot to me. He’s not Trump.
