THREE Dutch travellers overpowered a drunk man who attempted to open the main door on a Vueling flight from Alicante to Amsterdam last week.
The plane made an emergency landing in Paris, France, where the intoxicated Spanish man was arrested, De Telegraaf reported on Saturday, August 26.
Miranda Geurtsen, a passenger on board, told the newspaper that they had already noticed the man when boarding because he had a large bottle of Jagermeister with him. About 90 minutes in, he got into an argument with the stewardess. “A male steward took over the conversation with the man, but everyone felt the tension.”
“The Spanish traveller was very annoying and kept getting up, and did not listen,” she said.
“He harassed women. The man was clearly very drunk. In the end, he was allowed to go to the toilet, but only on condition that the door remained open.”
After the visit to the toilet, the man tried to open the emergency door despite the plane being at a high altitude. “Three Dutch men knocked him to the ground and tied him up in the back row with a seat belt”, Geurtsen said.
“The staff seemed relieved to get help,” she said. “Everyone on the plane was shocked.”
After the emergency landing, the French police arrested the Spanish man. After about two hours, the Dutch men also got off the plane to give statements at a police station, Geurtsen said. Their families went with them.
The plane eventually landed at Schiphol Airport three hours late, where the tired passengers were met with empty luggage belts because the baggage handlers had already gone home, Geurtsen said.
Days later, she was still waiting for her luggage.
A spokesperson for Vueling confirmed the incident and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the traveller. “We always prioritise the safety and well-being of all people on board. Therefore, we do not tolerate any behavior that could endanger our customers or our staff. That is precisely why the correct protocols were followed”.
Joke from the Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.
I was on a plane and as it moved upward through the clouds I looked forward to some relaxing time for reading. But two particularly unruly children were running down the aisles and coming up to passengers and bothering them again and again. A half hour later they were still at it.
Finally the stewardesses had reached the end of their patience.
One said to the kids: “Why don’t you go outside and play?”
Another instance of toxic masculinity!
"The Spanish traveller was very annoying and kept getting up, and did not listen," she said. "He harassed women. [...]"
Woman and children impacted most!
After the visit to the toilet, the man tried to open the emergency door despite the plane being at a high altitude. "Three Dutch men knocked him to the ground and tied him up in the back row with a seat belt."
Meanwhile, the stewardess - who is paid to deal with matters like this - cowered behind a curtain.
It's time for all men to finally understand that women are just as capable as men, and that stewardesses are just as able to deal with drunken / unruly passengers as male stewards!
Until then, people will just have to put up with being sucked out of airplanes at 20,000 feet!
Regards,
How do those "protocols" read? "In the event of a violent or suicidal passenger attempting to open the main door at high altitudes, retreat to a safe location and allow the other passengers to deal with the problem themselves!"
"They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash."
Regards,
As long as the plane is pressurized, he’s not going to have much luck in getting the door to open.
Golly, this seems to happen more than one would expect.
What if he was in league with some kind of gremlin on the wing of the plane?
Seriously, I think someone just successfully opened one of these doors, because they were landing, and at a low altitude.
“This door must be opened during business hours.”
I wish opening the door of a plane in flight was the dumbest thing I ever did on Jagermeister....
“A male steward took over the conversation with the man, “
Oh. A male steward(ess). THAT’s intimidating.
Dave Attell:
There’s no commercials for Jagermeister. I’ve never seen one. Have you? No, I haven’t. Right? There should be some, right? So you know what you’re getting into.
But there aren’t any.
But I thought of some.
Commercials for Jagermeister:
A guy comes out of a hedge.
He’s covered in mud and blood.
He’s holding one high heel shoe.
“Did I just eat a stripper?”
“Jager.”
I always assumed I had somehow climbed up there, but after reading this story, I have to consider the possibility I may have fallen out of an airplane :)
Protocols insist that the offender at least come away with a black eye.
I have a friend who just retired after 30 years as a cop. He’s now a flight attendant. This dude is imposing, friendly and scary at the same time.
Frontier airlines makes it a point to hire retired cops for flight attendants.
Oh, and he ain’t gay.
People seem to think flight attendants are nothing more than waitresses.

“Frontier airlines makes it a point to hire retired cops for flight attendants.”
GOOD TO KNOW!! :)
You would have to be able to apply 9.79 tons of pull force to "unplug" the door.
Good luck pulling that sucker open.
A simple fact of which too many people are unaware. Most airliners are pressurized to 8000 ft equivalent, approximately 11PSI. Atmospheric pressure at 35000 ft is about 3PSI. That gives 8psi pressure difference pushing the door into the door frame. WAG at the size of the door is 6ftx3ft, or 2592 square inches. Good luck opening a door with almost 21,000 lbs force holding it closed.
Question:
HOW DO 3 MEN KNOCK THE DRUNK TO “THE GROUND” INSIDE AN AIRPLANE AT ALTITUDE?????
I am disgusted with media who cannot distinguish “GROUND” FROM “FLOOR”
