Indignation has grown after two mountain lions died when wildlife officials moved them from the California mountains to the Mojave Desert - as the state admits 'in hindsight' it erred.
The two male mountain lions who were moved starved to death while trying to return home to their female counterparts to protect them.
'In hindsight, it wasn't a good place to release those lions,' said Tom Stephenson, a senior environmental scientist at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Big cats have territories. They defend the territories. Mountain lions will try to get back to their territories.
This is pure anthropomorphism.

It is a certainty, they were relocated because they were causing persistent problems in their territory.
A "best kept secret" most relocations of large predators ends with either the predator making it back to its original territory; or the predatory dies.
Very few make a success in a new territory. If they do, it is at the expense of another predator.

Drop any living creature off miles from home and they won’t have a clue where to find water or food or shelter or anything.

Exactly so. The entire "relocation" theme is Disney inspired hokum. When large predators are causing problems, the best solution is to put them in a zoo. If nobody will take them, the will need to be destroyed.
Most places know holding large, common predators, such as mountain lions, is very expensive. Chances of finding a zoo for them is highly unlikely; therefore culling them is the best choice.
People who disagree can fund walled sanctuaries for them, and fund their food. It is a very expensive proposition.

Pronghorns are not sheep-they are antelope-like hoofed critters-bighorn sheep are what the mountain lions were dining on-also a wild animal and their natural prey, like the pronghorns-but i guess the idiot wildlife folks would rather have the lions eating some rancher’s sheep/cattle, rather than natural prey? idiots-Nature is balanced if you leave it mostly alone...
