hundreds walked across the border...why is this news
I’m betting you’ve STRAPPED ON lots of things, but it still doesn’t mean you ever had a fight in your life, you sniveling COWARD. 🤣
I believe absolutely nothing in the news about this war.
You go on thinking that, propagandist.
Pops, you’re drooling.
It is sometimes advisable to be skeptical. So many jump on a news item without looking further. Here's a bit of "looking further.
A curation of the news stream is in order. Reported originally by "Andriy Yusov, a spokesperson for Ukraine's directorate of military intelligence, told local media," which would be the "the Kyiv Post." From there "...Poltava air base is about 300 km, or about 186 miles, away from the front line, which makes an accidental landing unlikely, the Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov said in a Facebook post." And from the Ukraine "directorate of military intelligence," through Kyiv Post, and elaborated by a "Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov" on Facebook, Alia Shoaib, "a news reporter on the weekend team, based in Insider's London bureau," writes this story.
The photo posted as a comment to illustrate the story by "dennisw" comes from Reuters, Sergey Pivovarov, originally captioned "A Russian Mi-8 military helicopter is seen during flight testing conducted by the Russian Air Force in the Southern Military District during snowfall at a military aerodrome in the Rostov region, Russia, January 19, 2022.
The Biz Insider article is dated August 23, 2023.
Other news sources:
"Russian helicopter pilot flies more 60 miles into Ukrainian territory before landing and defecting, amid claim two colleagues were 'eliminated' and fighter jet parts seized," Daily Mail, 23 August 2023.
Daily Mail sources their article to "Ukrainskaya Pravda." Daily Mail adds to the story that which Biz Insider did not.
"The pilot handed over control of the aircraft and cargo - parts for Soviet-era Su-27 and Su-30 jets - after Ukrainian intelligence operatives were reportedly able to extract his family from Russia and evacuate them to Ukraine to avoid repercussions. Two other Russian air force members aboard the helicopter refused to surrender and were shot by Ukrainian troops, Ukrainskaya Pravda reported."
Note discrepancies. The helicopter was "handed over" both 60 miles and "186 miles, away from the front line." Additionally, Daily Mail writes, "Images released by Ukrainskaya Pravda showed the Mi-8 helicopter in a field, as well as some of its cargo, including electronic components used in motors and other electrical systems. " Those images were not included in either Daily Mail or Biz Insider reports. FOX (with Reuters) reports this as "Kyiv claims pilot defected: reports." Fox writes, "Ukrainian media outlet Ukrainska Pravda cited unnamed intelligence sources...."
Reuters notes, "citing unnamed sources in the Ukrainian military command." The end of its article states "In April, Ukraine's domestic security service accused a number of Ukrainian military personnel of treason after what it said was an unsuccessful attempt to lure a Russian pilot to land at a Ukrainian air base, which led to a lethal Russian missile strike on that location in July 2022."
Defected. Lured. Pilot captured and other crew "liquidated." Pilot and crew being interrogated. 60 miles. 186 miles. Pilot's family in Ukraine. Pilot's family still in Russia. 2022. 2023.
"unnamed sources" → "a spokesperson for Ukraine's directorate of military intelligence" → "Kyiv Post" → a "Facebook" post → "Biz Insider" written by a UK based reporterYou commented, "I believe absolutely nothing in the news about this war."
It is, at the minimum, advisable to check further, for all is not often as it seems. Both "sides" and others as proxies all claim Russia and/or Ukraine are playing an "information war." I think many are playing an "information war," with confirmation bias the only distinguishing measure thereto.
What will be -- future tense -- certain is that the Ukraine-Russia war will end, and when it does and as it does, we will be able to say what transpired. Until then....
Dude, to save face maybe you should declare that as a ‘stock’ photo. There is snow on the ground and it’s actively snowing.
My dad, who served 28 years in the Navy, used to joke about how I had seen more combat than he had.
And I never wore the uniform. But I did work in a combat zone for quite a few years.
Kudos and respect to all who did serve.
Lol. You are missing the point. One Russian defected. The other Russians fought to the death. Doesn’t sound like morale is that bad.
Incredible heights of gullibility
So the Ukes murdered two captured helicopter crewmen. Sounds like a war crime. There are so many ways to spin this obviously bogus story.
Propaganda is harder to do than most people think.
I suspect the issue of "war crimes" will come down to "last man standing," and in the moment and unless things change rather a lot, it looks as if the Russians will have had the upper had. This statement will gain me accusations of being pro-Putin from those who think this a two-sided conflict, but I see it as at least an eight-sided conflict. I separate Z from Ukraine, P from Russia, the EC from Europe, and sure as hell Biden from the US as a whole. Different goals, sometimes aligned and sometimes in conflict, which means as you say, "propaganda is harder to do than most people think."
Best wishes.
welp, that's it. Russia is just going to have to go home, like they all said.
Happy Ukrainian Multi-Dependence Day! Slava Блокбастер!
All that time in Lucerne, Suisse, dontcha know?
That'll bust a block or two. But how does one spell "Kaboom" in Ukrainian?
"Кабум!"
I have observed members of FreeRepublic.com, supporting Russia. Your concern is not misplaced.
Russian invasions of territory that is not Russia, is a bad habit of Moscow annex-ploitations, and the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008, sparked an early displacement of some Ukrainians who feared for their families' lives. [With whom I am personally familiar.]

Russia gives Georgia an ultimatum [August 11, 2008] [posted to FR by neverdem] EXCERPTS:
SENAKI, Georgia: Russia issued an ultimatum to Georgia on Monday to disarm its troops along the boundary with the pro-Russian separatist enclave of Abkhazia as Russian tanks rolled across the internal border and occupied a military base in western Georgia.
The move was a sign that fighting could escalate on a second, western front after the conflict initially broke out last week around South Ossetia, the separatist enclave farther east.
President Dmitri Medvedev of Russia said its forces had "completed a significant part of the operations to oblige Georgia, the Georgian authorities, to restore peace to South Ossetia," according to a transcript of his remarks with Anatoly Serdyukov, the defense minister, on the Kremlin Web site.
Separately, Russia said it was seeking an emergency meeting with NATO to discuss the crisis.
But the Russian Defense Ministry said that armored vehicles and troops had overrun a military base in the Georgian town of Senaki, about 40 kilometers, or 25 miles, south of the Abkhazian border, suggesting that Russian troops had already begun to move south from the enclave into Georgia proper.
The Russian ultimatum, issued by Major General Sergei Chaban, commander of Russian peacekeeping forces in Abkhazia, called for Georgian troops to disarm in the Zugdidi district, along the border between Abkhazia and Georgia.
Russia has poured extra forces into Abkhazia, where it now has at least 9,000 troops and 350 armored vehicles.
There are plenty of Freepers who are aware.
See the daily log of Russia invading Georgia, posted by Freeper Brian S. Fitzgerald at his reply 263 for the period of August 1 to August 12, 2008. Including on August 12, 2008:
01:15 President of the United States George W. Bush made supportive statement to Georgia. "Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century," the president said in a televised statement from the White House, calling on Moscow to sign on to the outlines of a cease-fire as the Georgian government has done.
Cryptic.
