it is a sarcastic turn of “the people who voted for perot gave us clinton”... i voted for perot twice to burn down the corrupt system that washington had become... have seen it for a long, long, time.
if perot came along today and there were no trump, he’d be our trump.
Former President Donald Trump is wildly popular with a very small segment of the population, and disliked by even more people than Biden.
I stopped reading there. The latest RCP poll has President Trump +40 over Governor Desantis in a field of 11 Republican candidates, granted those are the only two in double digits, and Joe Biden +62 in a field of 3 Democrat candidates.
The poll has Joe Biden +6 over President Trump in the general election. That’s not a “very small segment”, that’s a margin of error.
oh okay. It’s nice to have some sarcasm here. LOL.
“Clinton was a Leftist, but he caused a lot less damage than Obama and Biden did.”
I never thought Clinton was a leftist. He was an opportunist. If the route to power in Arkansas was as a Republican, he would have been a Republican. But when he was coming up, only D’s held power in Arkansas.
Now HRC. She was an ideological leftist.
You are 100% correct on this.
Unfortunately, the Trump term from 2017-2020 clearly demonstrated the futility of having a "Perot" in the White House when the two major parties control Congress.
Perot’s name always takes me back to Rush’s parody from the 90s.

If you really thought you had a choice before Trump, look at this picture.
While I don’t know all that went on behind the wall, I think it will be much different here. I imagine a state wide “black Friday” like event. Very bloody and destructive.
“Unfortunately, the Trump term from 2017-2020 clearly demonstrated the futility of having a “Perot” in the White House when the two major parties control Congress.”
I would gladly accept 4 more years of “futility” at this point.
One important feature of the East German collapse was that those Ossi and Wessi were mostly, German, German-speaking and had a shared cultural history from the 19th century and back even to the polities before "Deutschland über Alles," a text from Hoffmann von Fallersleben written in the mid-1800s.
"Our" collapses will not always "share" these features. But I think they will be regional and centered on certain inner cities, and on certain Democrats for whom "do something" will be the unavoidable call, with resultant political changes and blowback.
Trump will likely be the next Perot if the RNC or Deep State try getting too cute with him.
“If you really thought you had a choice before Trump, look at this picture.”
DF, might you have anymore background on that picture? I’ve never seen it, and they look really, really, young. Also, who’s the guy on the right - he looks familiar, but I can’t put a name to it.
George Wallace.
I miss Rush.
“George Wallace”
Thanks gents!
100% agree that the inner cities will start the dominos to fall. But I see the puss from the lanced boil to flow to the subs and into the rural communities that are close by. Our population is much more mobile, it will spread. Despite being east and west, they were essentially the same people. We don’t have that here
Ross Perot was Trump without the charisma. For a shrill little guy he got a lot of votes including mine. He spoke truth to power at full volume.
NO.... Perot give us Clinton.

And yet, there are many FReepers who are glad of that fact. Many FReepers who voted for Perot and even in hindsight - would vote for him again. Knowing that Clinton would win.
