A second American tested positive for the new highly-mutated BA.2.86 Covid variant that has been causing global alarm over its rapid transmission.
The positive case was detected in an asymptomatic patient in Virginia who was tested August 10 after returning to the US from Japan.
Scientists identified the case in a database that contains test samples from a small number of travelers entering the US. Independent experts told DailyMail.com they believe the new strain is spreading more widely and in more US states.
The new variant, also spotted in Michigan last week, is causing concern because it stems from an 'earlier branch' of the coronavirus, so it differs from the variants targeted by current vaccines.
That concern, combined with an uptick in positive tests across the US, has spooked an Atlanta college and the Hollywood studio Lionsgate into mandating face masks again. But while Covid rates are rising in the US — hospital admissions are up for the fifth week in a row — they remain at near-historic lows.
Test positivity — the share of tests that come back positive for the virus — has doubled in the US in the past month and searches for Covid symptoms on Google have spiked in the past few weeks.
But doctors on the ground say that while they are seeing an increase in patients with the virus, their symptoms are milder than at any point previously in the pandemic.

One issue to begin with, every strain except the original is a mutant strain. They are all mutant. It is expected that new strains will surpass old strains and that they will be more infectious. But that does not mean masks will suddenly work. Or that we should not ignore the strain. As we can’t stop it. And so any thing you do to avoid the new strain is worthless.
What you can do, is to stay healthy take vitamin D. And keep some Ivermectin around. There are other anti-virals like zinc that will lower the symptoms. But masking and distancing and vaccines will not stop you from getting the new COVID.
We should all learned this by now.
Lock yourselves and your loved ones in your house or apartment.
Do not go outside, do not get fresh air, do not get sunlight.
Make sure you stand 6 feet apart because that's definitely safe and if you stand 5 feet apart or less, you're a danger to society and should be locked up. Or at least, banished from "civil" society that cares.
And most importantly, make sure you're putting your arm out for the latest and greatest shot-du-jour-of-the-month-club because profits have tanked lately. Otherwise, you're a "science denier" or worse. Hitler...or something.
Oh, and don't forget to vote by mail....as often as you'd like, so long as you toss the ballots into the mailbox from at least 6 feet away....while wearing a bacteria infested cloth "mask."

So they’re trying to do something that looks like a pandemic.
But we’ve learned to do the opposite of what they tell us to do, particularly regarding treatment or prevention.
Must be getting close to election time, that and Pfizer revenues are down.
