Wealthy residents in a Democrat-led Californian city have been branded NIMBYs for fighting to keep 100 homeless people from being housed in a $134-a-night hotel.
Crowds of angry Millbrae residents packed out their local community hall on Friday to protest 'Project Homekey' proposals to house rough sleepers at the La Quinta hotel on El Camino Real, close to the city center.
While hundreds of belligerent residents continue their fight to halt the homeless housing plans, others have slammed the Dem-majority's hypocrisy for voting in liberal leaders but then pushing back on progressive policies.
Jess Hudson, who is a local resident and Commissioner at the County of San Mateo, said that their actions show NIMBYism is popular, regardless of political affiliation. It's an for the phrase 'not in my back yard.'
About 95 percent of Millbrae's homeless population are currently congregating and sleeping at the Bay Area Rapid Transit station. The city is the last stop before San Francisco Airport, hence why many homeless people end up there.
Over 74 percent of residents in San Mateo County, which includes Millbrae, voted for Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom in November 2022 - with just one quarter of all ballots voting for the Republican candidate.
n March, Newsom announced a $1billion fund to tackle homelessness, attempting to deliver housing to the hundreds of thousands of people rough sleeping in the state. In the past four years, California as spent $17.5billion on the issue.
Newsom said: 'In California, we are using every tool in our toolbox – including the largest-ever deployment of small homes in the state – to move people off the streets and into housing.

Vote blue, they said.
It’ll be fun, they said.
Close the border, deport ALL illegal aliens!
I think wineries are more supportive than the cold city. I bet there’s some land around Pelosi’s place that would be great 😌
‘Rough sleeping’ is UK ‘slang’ for ‘homeless bums.’
(OK, I finally saw it was La Quinta)
Newsom said: ‘Every Democrat knows, “Diversity is our strength.”
We are using every tool in our tolerant and compassionate toolbox
to move people off the streets and into housing.’
Oh, so you thought all those Democrat politicians you keep voting for again and again and again would only carry out their lefty schemes in someone else’s neighborhood, right?
You never dreamed those lefty policies would affect YOUR exclusive area, right? Because a lot of those politicians you support and vote for live right in your neighborhood and wouldn’t s*** where they eat, right?
Chickens. Home. Roost.
Enjoy the suck. And I’m sure Gavin Newsom will still have your vote when the time comes.
Language abuse to aid a political agenda.
NIMBY - typical liberal behavior. Vote for it. But, get angry when they are exposed to the reality of their politics.
Sounds like the citizens of the SF Bay area need to return to the olden days when the Ducks and Hounds too care of crime. And it worked!
We missed the boat on the cheap materials. Now what?
Everyone knows Democrats are hypocrites.
The vote was stolen in CA for many years, just as it was in 2020. Then Newsom’s recall vote was stolen. He who counts the votes. Newsom is doing to CA what Biden is doing to the US.
Well scream away you sick bastards.
Actions, meet Consequences.
I heard that Biden is selling the wall. It is being hauled away.
I’d say you nailed it Madame.
Here’s one for you. PTSD. Pretty Tired Of Stupid Democrats.
17B spent in the right direction
could fix this problem.
When tasked with eating an elephant
it’s one bite at a time. The Dem’s
always seem to start with the most
unpleasant parts first, then wonder
why they have such a bad taste
in their mouth.
He already sold it for pennies on the dollar
Just like all those folks who went before the Cheka Firing Squads exclaiming, “But I am one of you!”
