Gen Z is searching for sad music on Spotify Technology SA more than any other generation, leading the streaming platform to dub the past few months a “bummer summer” for the youth.
“Sad” is Gen Z’s most-searched term on Spotify globally, the audio service said in a blog post Monday. In comparison, it’s the 13th most-searched term for Millenials. “To match the vibe in the US and Canada,” Spotify said it’s added new “sad” playlists and even installed a fountain of tears shaped like the artist d4vd in Houston, Texas.

Gee, I wonder why that is, not.
What would you expect from the climate/Floyd/mask/vax generation?
Any song by Morrissey pretty much qualifies.
I don’t know. All my nephews’ kids seem to be OK. Maybe because they don’t sit around doing nothing but listening to sad songs.
They don’t know true history because it hasn’t beee taught and they can’t even be reminded of our heroes because the left pulled the statues down. No wonder they are sad, they are completely screwed….
Well, we did have the “moaning homo” genre of the 80s-90s epitomized by the likes of Morrisey.
I passed on the Morrisey/Oasis and Seattle grunge stuff. It was impossible to avoid since the girls were crazy for it, though. Did rockabilly and some classic rock like CCR instead. I feel like I made the right choice there. LOL.

My kids seem to be just fine. But that’s probably because we’ve got a faith in the Almighty, and we talk about issues that come up in school and social media. In other words, active parenting. We’re not perfect, but we’re not easing zombies either.
Isn't all their music SAD?
How about “Alone Again Naturally” by Gilbert O’Sullivan? Though that one just made me laugh.
So what is the big hit pop song that Gen Z is into this summer?
True enough. Matters have become worse.
I paid next to no attention to pop music in general, as there was always something better to listen to. Most of it was derivative, boring, poorly written and executed by low/no talent posers. There were, of course brilliant exceptions.
I can understand why they’re sad when you realize that the movie that represents their generation will be Barbie. Taylor Swift’s Kindergartener Rock will be the music that represents the Zero Gen. Ain’t lookin’ good for the history books.
