Despite continued uncertainty about the future of the Wagner Group and its leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, recent satellite imagery indicates that the private military company (PMC) is not only staying in Mali but is actively expanding its base capacity in Bamako and may intend to transfer additional valuable military equipment there in the near future. With Prigozhin’s and Putin’s goals aligned toward maintaining Wagner’s operations in Africa, policymakers seeking to disrupt Wagner’s presence should monitor and publicly highlight more subtle signs of security service disruption or incompetence, rather than waiting for Russia to gut Wagner or for the PMC to implode.

The Wagner Base in Bamako Wagner personnel deployed to Mali in December 2021 with support from the Russian armed forces. Upon arrival, Wagner established an operating base adjacent to Bamako’s Modibo Keita International Airport, near Airbase 101, a military installation used by the Malian air force.

Our Dear Leader Biden is just winning all over, isn’t he. The decrepit, old fool probably thinks Wagner Group is in his closet.

Wagner, by Russian law, can’t operate in Russia. The annexed oblasts are now considered Russia. Wagner going to Africa has been a topic around here all year. Better to send them Mali than have them deployed on the Belarus Polish border.

Did you bother to check the timeline before swallowing that spin?

On 30 September 2022, Russia, amid an ongoing invasion of Ukraine, unilaterally declared its annexation of areas in and around four Ukrainian oblasts – Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia. The boundaries of the areas to be annexed and their borders were not defined; Russian officials stated that they would be defined later.

October 8, 2022 – The start of the assault on Bakhmut city by Wagner fighters, according to Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.
