A local council meeting in an affluent San Francisco neighborhood descended into chaos when hundreds of 'rowdy' residents began booing plans to place homeless people in a nearby hotel.
Crowds of angry Millbrae residents packed out their local community hall on Friday to protest 'Project Homekey' proposals to house 100 rough sleepers at the La Quinta hotel on El Camino Real, close to the city center.
So many people turned up that hundreds had to stand outside the 300-man capacity hall to hear proposals outlined by San Mateo County Executive Mike Callagy.
But Callagy's speech was quickly 'drowned out' by boos from the audience, according to Jordan Grimes, the leader of a grassroots campaign group for affordable housing who was present at the meeting.
Videos show the crowd loudly remonstrating in scenes akin to a sports stadium crowd. Some residents yelled their opposition, while others waved signs, flung their arms in the air and made thumbs-down gestures toward the speakers.
'The crowd is rowdy and angry, booing the County Exec until he's drowned out completely. Multiple times,' Grimes live-tweeted from the overflow area outside the hall.
He said the situation escalated when county staff hosted a Q&A session - which was quickly overrun by 'people having their own conversations' and 'yelling'.
Brandishing home-made signs reading 'Don't Bully Millbrae', 'Protect Us' and 'Safety for Millbrae', the neighbors aired their concerns about public safety and the proximity of the hotel to several schools.
Like many cities in San Mateo County, Millbrae has a high median household income of $141,399 - while also being home to a hefty rough sleeping population.
Millbrae resident Patricia Lam came early to secure a seat - equipped with a large sign reading 'keep our children and seniors safe'.

LOL...sorry folks, this is EXACTLY what you voted for time and time and time again. Did you think the problems would stay in the counties adjacent to the southern border? Did you think “sanctuary city” was just a meaningless slogan? (I don’t find any evidence that Milbrae is one, but certainly San Fran a bit north is).
How can you people be so heartless as to reject your new neighbors in need?
They LEFT their hearts in San Francisco.
Yah, that’s a new one on me. I get up 4x a night to pee. Do I qualify?

What is a hefty rough sleeping population? Another name for homeless people?
For clarification purposes, Millbrae is a suburb of SF, not a San Francisco neighborhood.
Great point. The only way you rouse the liberals, and make them rethink their ideas, is to put the result of their messed up policies right on their front porch over and over again until they change!
...”hefty rough”, lol.
Yeah, that’s like two sticks of butter lashed together in a rough-hewn manner.
I think it reads “Trans Parency.” No idea what it means. Could be they are demanding transparency in city council / planning meetings.
I’ve seen some pretty inventive nouns for “bums, hobos, and street people”, but, “rough sleepers” is one of the more original!
There's a hotel that won't be able to rent a room again, after they all get trashed by 3rd world "migrants".
Just burn it down and notify the insurance company.
Love watching chaos (from a distance). Before you all get too sympathetic remember they will be back voting straight Dem the next time they can.

Not In My Back Yard!
Nothing will change until lampposts start getting decorated with deserving elected officials.
Good way to stay anonymous. Face diapers have uses other than pretending block diseases.
This is NOT San Francisco.
[Can’t help but snicker at the chickens coming home to roost]
SF is getting what they voted for. Most of them would vote for the same ones again at the next election.
[Pubbies have a similar problem, however — voting for the same and expecting a different result.]
> I wonder if even some of these folks will wake up from woke and vote for normal conservative policies…? <
Not a chance. Because every liberal always believes that the next time it will be different. “Sure these Democrats let us down. But we will continue to vote D. Because the next time it will be different.”
And in a way, they’re right. Because the next time it will be different.
It will be worse, much worse.
Milbrae is a very nice, well run city, still unblemished by the Progressive’s Colony Collapse Disorder now seen in Oakland and San Francisco.
Milbrae, at this point in time, reminds me of other clean peaceful, upscale towns, such as Burlingame and Belmont.
Perhaps the a-holes running their government there should listen to the voices of the governed?
