Election season is rapidly approaching. The first Republican debate is this week. The Iowa caucus is in January, and the New Hampshire primary is soon thereafter. With over a dozen declared candidates, the marathon placements are starting to take shape.
For now, don't lean too heavily on polls. First, we're too far out, and too much can happen. Second, we all know how we feel about polls. The poll showing our candidate doing well is Gospel. The poll showing our candidate faring poorly is Soros-funded dreck. As the polls change direction, so too change their designations. Rinse. Repeat.
But taking this into consideration, it is undeniable that, if all primary voting were held today, then Trump would win handily, DeSantis would come in a solid second, and both Ramaswamy and Scott will have garnered enough second-tier support to warrant vice presidential consideration. Unfortunately for whichever camp you fall into, the polling so far suggests that Trump can't lose the primary and can't win the general election.
But what should be a civil discussion among rational conservatives is turning personal and nasty — not just among candidates, but among their supporters as well. Trump-supporters are treating DeSantis-supporters like neocon sellouts, and DeSantis-supporters are treating Trump-supporters like cultish conspiracy theorists. Neither charge is merited, and the rabble-rousers on both sides would do well to cut the ad hominem attacks. Such are the tactics of leftists peddling the sexualization of children, not of principled Americans who reasonably disagree about the best path forward.

I agree with you. DeSantis has far too much class and integrity to align himself with a Trump administration.
Oh well. Maybe Trump and Pence can patch things up and give it another go in ‘24.
A few weeks ago Jim Robinson himself posted a warning about the way people on this forum were speaking to each other about their Presidential candidates of choice, and this is exactly what he was talking about.
Ah... So, are you going to start using his comments, as a threat to silence people here, that support Trump?
Like several other desantis supporters have tried to do?
That post 2 seems to be a pretty innocuous statement, vs the statement many desantis supporters make about how voting for Trump means Trump supporters want biden back in office.
The “can’t we all just get along” types are wishful thinkers. Fools really.
If DeSantis wants to get along with MAGA, he needs to get out of the race. As long he remains in he is, in fact, in opposition to MAGA. Nobody is taking the nomination from Trump... period. It’s unbelievable to me how anyone cannot see this.
The gaggle of back-benchers are seen as losers and self-servers who don’t get it.
Trump is trashing DeSantis daily and spending all his campaign donations on lawyers
I am so embarrassed I cast votes for this lot. Never again.
And when Trump loses—and he will, either now or in the general)—do we get to gloat?
I wouldn’t count on that. Pence wasn’t a contender in 2016 even in a very crowded GOP field.
If I were to speculate right now, I’d say the most likely choice for Trump’s running mate in 2024 would be Kristi Noem.
Awww....and to think Trump has shown nothing but the mother’s milk of kindness to DeSantis
If, as you say, Trump is not a Republican, then, which party is he competing in? |
He's a Populist. He's been at odds with Republicans since Day One. And most here would be thankful for that.
Trump is trying to do an end run around the GOPe. No wonder the Repub swamp rats are ignoring him.
Blah, blah, blah...
All you haters fail to realize that Trump must pick someone as his VP.
LOL, ROTFL....
You can’t even admit or acknowledge desantis has already said he wouldn’t accept a v.p. position, yet continue to attack Trump supporters that say desanctimonious will never be v.p.
So, remove him from the Republican ticket? If he’s not a Republican, he doesn’t belong on it.
Projection
Your tender feelings were hurt over THAT?
Quit sniveling and GTFO the internet altogether.
Trump die hards have based their whole identity around him. They own a wardrobe of entirely Trump t-shirts, and put Trump flags on their lawns, windows, trucks, and motorcycles, as Sean Hannity preaches to them on their radios and TVs. To them it’s either Trump or no voting at all.
Trump is a religious icon to them the same way that that a leftist single woman worships Rachel Maddow, RBG, or Stacey Abrams, with the T-shirts, prayer candles, and with MSNBC constantly blaring.
The same applies for Trump followers. If Trump appears with Lindsay Graham, or Bruce Jenner, they are fine with it. If Trump locks down the country, no problem. If Trump brags about the deadly vax, they will overlook it. Whenever Trump calls someone a childish name, they clap like seals and roar with delight. They will repeat the childish insult repeatedly in deference to their gold frocked deity. “De Sanctus!!” (What does that even mean?)
If Trump says he is too good to debate, then worshippers will go along with it, chanting: “Why should he debate when corporate CNN polls say he’s ahead 6 months away before the first primary vote? Polls, polls, polls”, but in 2020 when Biden was hedging on whether to debate, Trump told his congregation repeatedly that Biden was too afraid to debate him, and that the polls were phony, and they of course roared in agreement. When Trump foolishly signed the CARES act, he paid for a fraudulent election, and he, nor any of his devotees cared or bothered to read the details. Details are for nerds and bookworms in Trump world.
If Trump dropped out tomorrow due to health they would no longer vote for anybody or anything. Trump is who they love. They aren’t interested in local bond issues or candidates for prosecutors or school related issues because those are boring and they don’t have tailgate rallies that play the Village People. They want Trump back. “He learned from his mistakes! I don’t care that he is 78, only one man can fight the deep state. So what if he hangs with Lindsay Graham and hired Chris Wray?”
“At this point, the ONLY thing that will save the USA is a biblical annihilation, obliteration, extermination, destruction of Washington DC.
Nothing else will suffice.
If the Deep State masters prevail, pain is coming to the entire world. Life is going to be nasty, brutish and short.”
So either we nuke America or the Dems nuke America? These are our only two choices? That’s a bit too fatalistic for me.
Actually Trump did show extreme kindness to DeSantis until RDS badmouthed and backstabbed him by colluding with vermin like the Shrubs and Paul Ryan to give the RINOs a victory.
Just pathetic!
lolol. Just the day day V-Twin was calling me out on being mean and insulting. Violating Jim's rules and etc.
Then he went right on to insult me and called me names.
lol
If Trump is not on the ballot, they will disappear. In theory, the GOP should not care about that because those voters weren’t there to vote for the GOP candidate in 2012, 2008, etc.
Oh, wait a minute … you see the problem here?
DeSantis should apologize publicly to Trump and all MAGA supporters for calling them “Listless Vessels”.

I listened to DeSantis’ complete statement. While it’s questionable if his characterization was a wise political move, the truth of the sentiment was spot on. His point _ The Trump Only crowd wakes each morning to see what’s on Truth Social so they can instinctively and blindly parrot what their leader is putting out. No objective consideration of the bigger and long term picture - just follow Trump at all costs.
Desantis’ point is that the conservative movement is more than just about any one person. Further, to build a winning coalition will require expanding beyond Trump’s core followers.
Last week’s AP-NORC poll revealed that 53% of the electorate will not vote for Trump under any circumstances. This matches precisely what Trump achieved in 2020, when he received 46.8% of the popular vote. Nothing has changed, except that Trump has driven away more potential supporters by his relentless character assassinations against other GOP candidates.
I'm a Trump guy; and my head wouldn't explode if he picked DeSantis as running mate. I'd question the imbalance geographically, with 2 Florida guys; but I admire DeSantis a lot and refuse to cast garbage in his direction.
Agreed. I'm a Trump guy also. But not an only Trumper. I've always stated that we conservatives need to keep our options open. If in the event Trump is not coronated - RDS is fine.
