Election season is rapidly approaching. The first Republican debate is this week. The Iowa caucus is in January, and the New Hampshire primary is soon thereafter. With over a dozen declared candidates, the marathon placements are starting to take shape.
For now, don't lean too heavily on polls. First, we're too far out, and too much can happen. Second, we all know how we feel about polls. The poll showing our candidate doing well is Gospel. The poll showing our candidate faring poorly is Soros-funded dreck. As the polls change direction, so too change their designations. Rinse. Repeat.
But taking this into consideration, it is undeniable that, if all primary voting were held today, then Trump would win handily, DeSantis would come in a solid second, and both Ramaswamy and Scott will have garnered enough second-tier support to warrant vice presidential consideration. Unfortunately for whichever camp you fall into, the polling so far suggests that Trump can't lose the primary and can't win the general election.
But what should be a civil discussion among rational conservatives is turning personal and nasty — not just among candidates, but among their supporters as well. Trump-supporters are treating DeSantis-supporters like neocon sellouts, and DeSantis-supporters are treating Trump-supporters like cultish conspiracy theorists. Neither charge is merited, and the rabble-rousers on both sides would do well to cut the ad hominem attacks. Such are the tactics of leftists peddling the sexualization of children, not of principled Americans who reasonably disagree about the best path forward.

“he trashes MAGA voters...”
A good thing Trump doesn’t stoop to name calling right? 😉
VP candidates tend to be boring losers at heart, and usually join a ticket because they know they don’t have what it takes to win a presidential election.
I am not a fan of RDS by any stretch, but I think more highly of him than to see him relegated to some useless role like that.
The left is waging an all out war against everything American.
Like him or not, Trump is the only thing standing between us and totalitarian tyranny.
It’s Trump or Bust.
The establishment can control everyone else. That’s why they’re running against Trump. They are being fed by the swamp.
Oh hush. This is normal primary behavior. It is sickening to watch RDS cheer kids agree with RATs to throw Trump behind bars.
You just want everyone to let Ron skate with no comments about what he says or does.
If, as you say, Trump is not a Republican, then, which party is he competing in?
Stop telling people what they should do. Go back to your Homeowners association. Gezzz
Please post where Trump has name called any DeSantis voters. I missed it.
There are many examples of desantis supporters bringing up someone attempting to kill or othewise talking about the death of Trump, and who would be there to fill in the candidacy if that happens.
You might have seen it, but your history shows you only recently started posting a lot again, so you may have missed some of them.
I agree. We Trump supporters need to look kindly on DeSantis and the seven dwarfs. We need to just take the win and evaluate the others as potential cabinet people (except maybe Nikki and My Dear Ole Ramswamy).
There is no need for rancor here.
And, gee whiz, I wish I were as pure as some of Trump’s critics — maybe some day, if I work on it.
Finally caught The Meatball on Fox visiting my stepmom Sunday. Old people tend to watch FOX.
Anyway. What an uncomfortable individual The Meatball looks like. I would also add his expressions give me a “light in the loafers” vibe. Definitely sets off the Gaydar.
Trump 2024.
Blah, blah, blah...
All you haters fail to realize that Trump must pick someone as his VP.
God forbid he should pick another Pence. But he’s going to pick someone who will be at this debate on Wednesday night.
Someone you hate with a passion. So who? Who do you hate the least who would be acceptable in your sight?
Whether Trump name calls or not has little relevance to my point. That said l don’t recall Trump trashing DeSantis supporters but it wouldn’t surprise me l will admit
Desantis could drop out and apologize to all MAGA supporters for running against Trump this time.
It’s amazing, the government has been hijacked by Communist leftist in both parties, many feel were on the verge of a civil war, economic breakdown, subversion everywhere, and yet all you seem to care about is Trumps tone and someone being called a “name”.
Just pathetic!
Q: “so either trump to save the us or we are all doomed?”
A: Out of the bunch running, that is our only true candidate.
Q: “You sure Trump has the ability to save it?”
A: He’s the only one of the bunch who will try.
Statement: “(I am inching closer to a CW being the only possible way to fix this mess. Or Christ returns. That would work too)”
Me too. I would rather go to CW with President Trump in office than any of the others. I’m pretty sure they’re going to steal this election too, though, so may just be at the CW point in 2025. We are at the end times it sure seems, but we have some more tribulations to go through before Christ comes.
I'm a Trump guy; and my head wouldn't explode if he picked DeSantis as running mate. I'd question the imbalance geographically, with 2 Florida guys; but I admire DeSantis a lot and refuse to cast garbage in his direction.
I would’ve agreed with that when it looked like deSantis had a chance — but now almost nobody’s listening to him anymore so it doesn’t matter much if he attacks Trump more or not. (His attacks were a major reason his campaign died out, in the first place.)
>> A few weeks ago Jim Robinson himself posted a warning about the way people on this forum were speaking to each other about their Presidential candidates of choice, and this is exactly what he was talking about. I never thought I’d see the nasty talk I do on Free Republic but here we are.
?????????????
Here is post #2, the one you were whining about, in its entirety:
“I prefer a contested primary.
So far, it’s been one-sided.
It seems doubtful DeSanctus can hurt trump.
He seemingly can’t even run a campaign.”
Kindly point out what part of that post is uncivil, and/or offensive to you. No other FReeper is even mentioned!
To be honest, that’s why some of us here got on his bandwagon and supported him in the first place.
Just look at the tiresome list of corrupt and/or feckless losers who the GOP has trotted out as a presidential nominee in my adult lifetime, and you’ll understand what I mean … Bush I, Bob Dole, Bush II, John McCain, and Mitt Romney. And if it weren’t for Trump in 2016, we would have been treated to the spectacle of another insufferable loser on the national stage: Bush III.
Boden was installed. More to come.
