Dog the Bounty Hunter’s policeman son finds missing Pa. child

A traffic stop in DeKalb County, Alabama, turned up a child reported missing from Pennsylvania.

And the officer responsible was the son of TV’s Dog the Bounty Hunter, on his first day as a certified patrolman.

That’s according to Ider Police Chief Stephen Malone.

“Being able to make the call to this boy’s guardian, letting them know he’s safe and on his way home, is one the most rewarding parts of this job,” Malone said in a statement.

Ider police say Amanda Beiland, 37, of Ider, has been charged with interference with child custody. She also has a previous charge for chemical endangerment of a child, Malone said.

She was booked into the DeKalb County Jail Thursday morning. Bond has not yet been set.

According to Malone, the officer who stopped Beiland found a boy in the car.

The officer, Garry Chapman, is the son of Duane Chapman, otherwise known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, who earned fame for an A&E series that chronicled his life as a bounty hunter and bail bondsman.

A check uncovered that the boy had been reported missing for more than a week from Scranton, Pa. The child will be transported back to his guardian, Malone said.

Duane Chapman was in Alabama to celebrate Garry Chapman’s graduation Aug. 10 from the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy.

Feel good but almost too good to be true.

Surprising the FTO didn’t take credit.

First thing I thought was the boy was with a parent when they mentioned he was going back to his guardian. Not sure this is a feel good story.

I don’t always agree with the court’s decisions, but I’m not
sure who to trust when we can’t trust them.

I know what you’re talking about, but there has to be some
sort of process that we respect.

Without the court, I’m not sure there is a better way to
know what’s on the up and up, even as bad as we probably
agree courts sometimes are.

I'm remember watching Garry when he was just a kid on Dog's show. Shame what happened to his mom, but I'm sure she's looking down on him proudly

Sounds like a mom just wanted her kid back.

“A check uncovered that the boy had been reported missing for more than a week from Scranton, Pa. The child will be transported back to his guardian, Malone said.”

The entire article is as weird and stupid as the above line.

This sounds like a custody dispute, not a child trafficking kidnapping. Huge difference, but the Media paints it the same.

That’s what it sounds like to me too. If so, they sure took pains to hide the fact that the “kidnapper” was the child’s mom. Very odd imo.

I remember him, also. I really enjoyed watching DOG on Sunday mornings. I miss the show.

I was thinking along similar lines because of the strange way the article was written. I got the impression that the kidnaper was possibly the child’s mother. Who are the guardians, and why?
