NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police are investigating a self-defense claim following a deadly Sunday night shooting that occurred at a gas station in the Bordeaux area.
The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. at a gas station in 3900 block of Clarksville Pike on Sunday, Aug. 13.
Authorities reported that 42-year-old Ricky Starks Jr. was shot and killed following a reported altercation that occurred at the store.
According to Metro police, Starks was outside of the Citgo gas station when the incident occurred.
Ricky Johnson Jr. — the man who allegedly shot Starks — told officers that he was exiting the Citgo when Starks approached him, pointed a gun at his head, pistol whipped him and demanded money.
Johnson, 34, told officers that Starks followed him as he ran inside the store. That’s when Johnson fired his gun and shot Starks multiple times. Authorities reported that video surveillance supports Johnson’s account of events.
Starks was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center where he later the died, according to Metro police.
Officials said the district attorney’s office will continue to investigate the self-defense claim.
No other information was immediately released.

A better use of its time and the taxpayers money would be for Nashville to throw a parade for Ricky Johnson, Jr., instead of “investigating his claim of self-defense.”
I try not to buy gas at night from a station with bars over all of its windows.
Yep, had a gps issue due to road construction driving from Ft. Lauderdale to the keys, drops us off the highway in a bad section around Miami, gas station had bars, got right back on the highway and figured things out rather than pulling over in that area.
I love a story with happy ending!

The story did not show pics of the perp. If the victim was white and the perp was black that info would need be hidden to prevent immediate race riots.

They have to make sure there wasn’t any previous connection between the two. Making murder look like self-defense is an old trick.
No they don’t “have to”. If witnesses and video support that someone put a gun to his head and pistol whipped him, then no matter what else was going on he was within his rights to kill his assailant. Period. End of story. I don’t care if they were rival dope dealers, or if the assailant was a federal agent. This is why people have lost respect for the law; they let the real criminals walk and spend their budget trying to prosecute either innocents who pissed them off, people who have deep pockets, or people who stand up for themselves.
So let me see I understand this. Rick pulled a gun on Ricky. Ricky ran into the store, but Ricky followed him, so Ricky pulled his gun and shot Ricky, killing Ricky. Now, Ricky is claiming self defense. Got it!
It’s not always easy, but sometimes you have to wait your turn.
