Trump cancels press conference on election fraud claims, citing attorneys’ advice

Former President Donald Trump now says he won’t be holding a news conference next week to unveil what he claims is new “evidence” of fraud in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election — even though no fraud has ever been substantiated — citing the advice of lawyers as he prepares to face trial in two criminal cases that stem from his election lies.

No compelling evidence of the wide-scale fraud Trump alleges has emerged in the two-and-a-half years since the election in Georgia or elsewhere, despite Trump’s baseless claims. Republican officials in the state have long said he lost fairly and three recounts there confirmed President Joe Biden’s win.

“Rather than releasing the Report on the Rigged & Stolen Georgia 2020 Presidential Election on Monday, my lawyers would prefer putting this, I believe, Irrefutable & Overwhelming evidence of Election Fraud & Irregularities in formal Legal Filings as we fight to dismiss this disgraceful Indictment,” Trump wrote on his social media site Thursday in announcing his reversal.

“Election lies,” “baseless claims” — Not exactly objective reporting.

It's the AP that is lying, not Trump.

I pray this is true, and that at least one court in the U.S.A. still has the honor and resolve to actually take the case and totally try the case and prosecute the perps.

They have to, because of the charges. Well, I should say in the America we were born into they had to. I guess we will see, if we still have the right to defend ourselves in court.

Thanks for your reply. I was sooo disappointed to read that Trump had cancelled; Feeling that it made him appear wimpy, making the big announcement and then backing down. But your suggested scenario puts it in a much different and better light. If he does as you described, and drags their sorry @$$e$ into court, and if he has the evidence and proof to prevail in court. Yes, I realize, that’s a whole bunch of ifs!

I think you are missing the point. It's because they are dragging him into court on the charges they have filed (basically that he tied to overturn an fair & honest election), he has the right to defend himself of the charges. They, the prosecution, have opened the door in their zeal to "get Trump". As a defendant, his defense team has the right to subpoena witness and provide evidence that exonerates him of the crimes he is being charged with. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear before. 🙂

Hopefully, I I have done a better job of it now. Still waking up. 😋

Yes, thanks. I see it now. Instead of doing a big expose’ news conference; Hold all his ammo and use it to defend himself before the kangaroos...and perhaps let his proofs and evidence turn the tables and bring a bunch of corrupt perps to justice in the bargain.

Good move. Never disclose your defense until necessary for trial. Why give them extra time to research, make stuff up, then attack it?

Except, the trial isn’t about election fraud.

His fundraising must be in the crapper too.

All of his surrogates and flunkies (redundant) are all over Twitter demanding DeSantis drop out.

Good ole Matt Schlapp came out of the closet on this issue at least:

The sooner we unify behind a nominee the sooner we can use resources to fund the defenses of everyone indicted for being a Trump Republican. This is become about a bigger principle than just one man.

Best advice I ever got for a Law Professor (not a raging leftist one) was do not take any crap from a Judge. They are nothing but referees in a jury trial setting. They are not the overlords just because they wear a robe. I almost got judge to come over the bench at me once, she threatened me with contempt and a holding cell but I did not even get so much as even a sanction. Why? Because the Judge knew she was flat out wrong on the issue (she was biased toward the RI state executive branch).

All it takes to make the evidence admissible is one instance of the prosecution saying “baseless claims of election fraud” and Trump is entitled to litigate the issue fully. It is a valid Affirmative Defense, same type of thing as “Justification” in a shooting case.

Kudos for Trump to listen to his attorneys. On that note, suggest Trump scour the country for some of the best black attorneys to defend him in the racist cities of NY, Atlanta, and GA.

Thanks for that, but it seems that way too many advocates are as wimpy pansy as the RINO GOPe.

I doubt it. Simply isn’t the venue.

Should there be indispensable evidence, it should be litigated separately. Even if it’s proven there was enough fraud to overturn the election, it’s not a defense for the actions he’s being accused of.

Also interesting that it was a sheila as are the majority of those that don’t give a damn and think that THEY are the law.
