Utah Sen. Mitt Romney has some work to do if he plans on running for another term next year, but he has a big head start on any potential challengers, according to a new poll.
In a hypothetical 2024 Republican Senate primary match-up, 30% of Utah Republicans would vote for Romney. Attorney General Sean Reyes, who is reportedly eyeing a U.S. Senate bid, is the only other potential candidate with double-digit support at 13%.
So far, two other candidates are in the race for Romney’s seat, but they only managed marginal support in the poll from Noble Predictive Insights. House Speaker Brad Wilson, who launched his campaign earlier this year, is at 5%. Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs has been campaigning vigorously to replace Romney next year and was favored by just 3% of Utah Republicans.

Other than the super wealthy who own ski lodges around Park City (Robert Redford) or the ghetto slummers in the major cities, the Democrats can't get elected to much of anything. So guess which primary they crash?
But they have to unite behind one candidate because otherwise it goes to a primary where low information voters and Democrats who register as independents can vote.
Or the Democrats may choose not even to run a candidate as they did with Egg McMuffin (the CIA guy) running as an indy.

Does Utah have a runoff law? It seems like all of these challengers will split the anti-Romney vote and it could lead to Romney winning the nomination.

He’s an incumbent with 100% name ID at 30% in a Republican electorate (Utah) more inclined to support a “Republican” like him. 30% is therefore a terrible number - but if he draws multiple opponents to split the opposition, he could still have the upper hand.
Mitch will use the RNC to bankroll him.
