‘Pardon-Proof’: Georgia Charges Are Most Serious Legal Threat to Trump, Experts Say
Messenger Politics ^ | 8-15-23 | Steve Reilly

In Georgia, even a victory in the 2024 presidential race would not allow former President Donald Trump to escape criminal charges

Georgia’s insulation from the presidential and gubernatorial pardon powers could make the newest indictment of Donald Trump the most serious criminal charges the former president has faced yet, legal experts told The Messenger.

“There is no pain-free exit from this state litigation for Trump,” said Barbara Ann Perry, professor and director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center.

Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign could, if successful, hand him a literal get-out-of-jail-free card on any convictions stemming from federal charges in Florida and Washington, D.C. in the form of Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, which vests the president with pardon powers for federal crimes.

But such a pardon is not a possibility in Georgia, where a Fulton County grand jury on Monday handed up charges against Trump as part of a 41-count, 19-defendant indictment stemming from District Attorney Fani Willis’ 2 ½-year probe into alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Defendants including Trump have been asked to voluntarily surrender by Aug. 25. continues...

Sadly, using the law as political power seemed to start with Bill Clinton and a cigar in the 90s... I remember the days before baby-boomers took over the country and created this mess... People want to blame tiktok and pot for today's problems 🙄 No, it's mean-spirited people who've lost the ability to play fair on both sides.

When one candidate finally rises to inspire the higher good in people again (like Reagan) this nightmare will be over.

What a total pile of Bunk. First the charges are utterly false, but that aside, no government gives a form of absolute power to such a low rung of the government operation as to allow them to try and jail anyone with impunity.

Anything can be pardoned by whichever top Executive Authority exists within that structure except the final result of the death penalty.

THIS is what we are up against and no doubt why they are going after him.

“Geraldo Rivera is urging President Joe Biden to pardon Donald Trump “the way Ford pardoned Nixon,” with one major condition: Trump must agree to “no longer seek the presidency.”

“Biden pardoning Trump — the way Ford pardoned Nixon — IS a good idea,” Geraldo tweeted on Tuesday. “This clemency to include inciting the violence of January 6th, the Mar-a-Lago documents case & any other federal allegation. Clemency would require a pledge by Trump that he will no longer seek the presidency.” “

I have only one democrat in my life by family connections and that is ready to get ended by me. Freaking demons intent on the destruction of America and the death of half her citizens.

The Georgia charges are weak because they are vulnerable to a demonstration of actual voter irregularities.

“There is no pain-free exit from this state litigation for Trump,” said Barbara Ann Perry

The Justice system just knows he's guilty and already convicted. They don't need to have a trial. He's guilty at the start and that's all there is to it. And they seem pretty gleeful that there is no possible way for him to escape. They think it's a done deal: he will die in prison. Court proceedings are a mere formality.

There is a pain free escape. Armed Patriots will storm Georgia and make Sherman look like a pansy

According to DA Fanny Willis, it is illegal for a Republican to send out a tweet encouraging people to watch a televised proceeding on OAN. Absolutely shameful.

Had a Democrat done the same thing, all would be fine.

Rachel Maddow said exactly the same thing. That is the objective of all of this phony lawfare.

Can’t the Georgia governor pardon him?

Why yes. I bet he can.

But.. will be?

(If need be)

The law is 5 years after trial which means 5 years in jail. Who knows who will be governor of Georgia in five years. The way the state is going it could be a rat.

If the GOP were a true opposition party, the House would be impeaching Biden right now. And some Republican DA somewhere would looking for a way to indict Biden. (Biden’s crimes are real and numerous. It should be easy to indict him.)

Turn about is fair play.

But, no. Democrats play a ruthless version of hardball. Republicans play wiffle ball. It’s not hard to see which party will dominate in the future.

I wouldn’t look for SCOTUS to overturn these phony convictions on appeal. They will not choose to get involved and if they did, Kavanaugh and Roberts would likely side with the Stygian Witches.

I think Trump will smile large and in charge for the camera, as hopefully the others will. A nice set of trading cards. No?

If he is elected, he is president. If the charges stand his administration should cut off ALL funding and aid to the State of Georgia until it stops and throw the governor in prison on ANY charge. Start with SEDITION.

MEANWHILE, THE GUTLESS GOP EUNUCHS IN CONGRESS DO NOTHING.
Thet should cut all Federal Aid to Atlanta SPECIFICALLY and Georgia in general.

Agreed. This woman is over her head and about to embarrass herself. These charges are not going to keep Trump up at night.
