Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday that he would be open to using drone strikes against Mexican drug cartels if he’s elected president.
“We will absolutely reserve the right if they’re invading our country and killing our people,” DeSantis said when a voter asked whether he would be willing to use drones against the cartels.
Asked later by NBC News to clarify, DeSantis said: “I said I would use whatever force we need to defend the country.
“We’d be willing to lean in against them, and we reserve the right to defend our country,” he added.
DeSantis has been leaning hard into immigration as a theme in his presidential campaign, pushing to the right to distinguish himself from former President Donald Trump.
In June, DeSantis endorsed the use of “deadly force” against migrants suspected of trafficking drugs. He reiterated the policy again Thursday as he spoke to a crowd of more than 150 voters in a packed restaurant here.
“We’re authorizing deadly force. They try to break into our country? They will end up stone-cold dead,” he said to a rousing round of applause.
In a recent interview, DeSantis discussed how he would distinguish between migrants who are smuggling drugs and those who aren’t.

I think it’s worth a review.
It’s also possible for them to send drones across our border.
This may not be as good an idea as it sounds on first blush.
Something needs to happen, not just for our nation, but for
the people of Mexico.
Spread that to illegal invaders too.
Rhonda Santis will SAY anything you pay him to SAY.
RDS stealing Vivek’s idea without giving him credit.
Let’s skip the shit and jut invade. OK ron?
Sounds good to me; light ‘em up!
What a pussy. I am all for carpet bombing illegal alien border invaders.
DeSantis is the best candidate, he will make America great again, all Trump wants to do is make Trump great again
This sounds desperate and pandering. Mexico is a sovereign nation, drone strikes are a act of war. This will only make dealing with immigration worse.
The pres of Mexico is absolutely enraged about this, last I read a few weeks ago.
“ The pres of Mexico is absolutely enraged about this”
And we are enraged about what comes across our border.
Look, our press is no prize either.
I’m sure they think it’s just the bully on the block, but
even bullies have a right to protect their home, family,
belongings, their home town, region, state, and nation.
Something is going to have to give, as it relates to the
cartels and the control they are gaining.
We need to get serious with the dealers and users too.
Folks, allowing our nation to turn into an opium den
hasn’t exactly worked the miracles folks said it would.
Actually it needs full out military action. Wonder if we have enough real military to do it.
I support a TOTAL shutdown of the Border with Mexico, including all points of entry until they obey. Nothing in, nothing out including cars, produce, and candy.
DeSantis doesn’t give a flying fig about America, just like you, Mr. Rove.
Go count your thirty pieces of CCP silver again.
RDS has so far shown he wants to keep the establishment gravy train going.
I have faith in Trump’s policies, but like Ron, he sucks up to the establishment sorts.
Even when he gets stabbed in the back by them.
This “drone the cartels” is something Lindsey shot out of his face orifice like 6 months ago, when those black drug smugglers got kidnapped.
I’m open to Arclight strikes on Mexican drug cartels, myself. Just unload a few B-52s onto a few cartel compounds, and if the Mexican government doesn’t like it, tough tortillas. It wouldn’t be necessary if they’d deal with the cartels themselves.
Doesn’t matter how many times Desantis proves he is conservative and anti-deep state.
The dozen or so haters here will continue attacking him nonstop with nothing more than empty accusations and labels.
I fully understand why many would choose Trump, I don’t understand why they feel they must destroy Desantis in the process.
