Nolte: National Review Executive Editor Attacks Oliver Anthony…. (Rich Men North of Richmond)
Breitbart ^ | 8-14-23 | Nolte

Posted on 08/14/2023 3:41:56 PM PDT by wardaddy

An everyday man comes out of rural Virginia with a folk song empathetic to the working class, and the executive editor of National Review is triggered into attacking him and the song.

This establishment elite is so above it all he dissects “Rich Men North of Richmond” lyric by lyric. Honestly, the best way to read these excerpts is in the voice of Thurston Howell III:

“Yes — it is a damn shame what the world’s gotten to. But we can fix it. We don’t have to just dream about it.Indeed, if we want to, we can fix it on our own even if Washington is standing in our way or looking down its nose at us,” lovey.

I don't know much about Senator Murphy, but he may remember a time when blue collar and working class whites were solidly Democrat in affiliation. In his home state, the towns that supported Trump were lower income working class areas. Contrast Bethlehem Township, in northwest Connecticut, which Trump won by 18 percentage points, with a annual family income of $79,000, vs. Greenwich, adjacent to New York City, which Biden won by 25 percentage points, with an annual family income of $272,000.

“The entire GOP-e isn’t much better.”

No, it really isn’t. 2016 showed the way, but we still get served up the same old stuff from the controlled opposition.

I was going to post about that NR column when I got home, glad someone else beat me to it.

More libertarian drivel. Every man for himself. They sold your town and your children’s future?

Get a better job, Learn to code. I’m all right, Jack.

While the nation crumbles.

NR absolutely looks down on red necks. They think conservatives should like wine, cheese and cruises. If Bill Buckley were alive he would walk through the NR office like Al Capone with a bat and bash their girly men heads in.

Why do Oliver Anthony, Jason Aldean, Aaron Lewis, and the Patriot gang upset the extreme far left and Tik Tokers so much. The whiners never throw tantrums over Hip Hop Crap noise.

All Nolte said was: "Get a job!"

This song, like Trump, scares the Elite.

They smell the revolution in the air.

National Cuck (Review) has become elitist themselves. They even attacked the tune “Try That In A Small Town” (I think that is the name).

They are so irrelevant these days.

“those living in rural parts of America often “feel threatened economically, culturally, socially” because “they have no contact with the expert class.” -David Brooks.”

David Brooks thinks it is bad now, wait until rural people DO meet some of the “expert class”.

National Review is pretty much just gays for tax cuts at this point. Sad.

Stopped reading it when Buckley died.

Their analysis assumed bloated, progressive government and the DC military-industrial complex as the baseline for American Government, and then after that, NR writers simply hoped Democrats would behave themselves.

Any conservative who wished to make the slightest change would likely be called "mean" and aggressive by NR. They took this off the deep-end with Trump.

From the article about Woodie Guthrie (and yes, he was a Communist but not a “joiner” or a worker— in personal sentiment, even as he made money from his published songs provided by other people who sent him his royalties). That being an explanation... Here: “Depending on the listener, “This Land is Your Land” can be heard in different ways. Guthrie most likely intended it as a call to move beyond private property, and toward a greater equality and common humanity. Notably the lines usually excluded, talk about encountering a sign reading, “No Trespassing,” while the other side of the sign, “didn’t say nothing.” — that being the sign that was “made for you and me.” .....excerpt.

The lyrics, universally skipped in this song— is an insult to people who farmed the land (and often failed due to the Dust Bowl effects, no money, no work/time saving tools, and poor soil— all of which were overcome by US ingenuity in developing quality growing soils, analysis and fertilization, tilling methods and irrigation... bumper crops. And verse 6 is an insult to the deep religious beliefs of many persuasions that motivated our People to build this fantastic Country.

Here’s the idiotic lyrics, for those here to remember what was being done in these days- and it had nothing do to with patriotism or respect and understanding of our Constitution and how many to that date had died defending it. The MAJOR part of the Communist Agenda is the removal of private property- of any kind, including Patents, Land Title, Royalty rights of invention/ownership of the means created, and... eliminate National Currency. These are facts known for over 100 years and in the Black Book of Communism. They are evil, murderous thugs who care only for themselves and their control of power— like...Democrats!

[Verse 4]
As I was walkin’ - I saw a sign there
And that sign said “No trespassin’”
But on the other side .... it didn’t say nothin!
Now THAT SIDE WAS MADE FOR YOU AND ME!

[Verse 6]
In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this land’s still made for you and me

No, not the useless Lowry, a fellow named Mark Antonia Wright. If you click the “it gets worse” link it brings you to the piece.

Me, I washed my hands of NR when Lowry was a MORON about Covington. Sure, I’ve read a piece from a link here and there, but I have never once, not one time, been tempted to check them out since.

That was the last straw, after Derbyshire, after Coulter (after 9/11), and after Never Trump. Don’t know if I’ve got that stuff in the correct chronological order or not. But it doesn’t matter.

Like Jimmy Kimmel, NR is dead to me.
