My son came back from shopping today a little stunned, like he had seen a ghost. He was shocked to see a person in the grocery store still wearing a COVID mask. He immediately leapt to an analogy that has kept me laughing all day.
Long after World War II ended, Japanese soldiers remained hidden in the jungles and caves of the Pacific islands either unaware or unwilling to accept that Japan had surrendered. It had been drilled into them that surrender would not only disgrace themselves and that they would never be welcomed back home, but further it would disgrace their families to the tenth generation. The last known of these holdouts, Teruo Nakamura, surrendered in 1975, but knowing the breadth of the territory Japan had occupied and fought on, the inaccessibility of the jungles, mountains, and caves, it is safe to assume many more never came out and died unknown in hiding or who knows, a couple could still be alive in hiding.
Such are the COVID holdouts. Most of us knew the masking and isolations was all nonsense. Even though they’ll never admit it our friends on the Left know the truth also and quietly threw away their masks. But to many, the mask was more then a health thing. It was a political statement and that statement was “I am not one of those MAGA creeps.” For them, like the Japanese living in jungles 10, 20, and even 30 years after the war had ended, they can never surrender. Their entire identity is tied up in that mask.

The analogy fails as most metaphors do. The Japanese soldier was a somewhat effective defender against the enemy at one point in the war. At no time were these covid warriors effective or necessary, they were always crazy.
Let them wear masks, if it comforts them. As long as they’re not trying to make me wear a mask, I really don’t care.
Well it’s definitely a sign that they are a Democrat.
I see people wearing masks every time I go to the store. It’s only a couple of them. Most of the time they are older people. I’m an older people but new from the start the whole thing was a scam. Masks never worked and never will. Not vaxxed either.
—if they are my age (80 plis) , I assume they have a lung problem-otherwise assume they are ad stupid <#@&ing Democrat—
Every month or two, I see a single person in a car, windows up, wearing a mask.
It is like wearing a sign saying, avoid me.
The problem is there are people with medical conditions that have to wear a mask. Rather than understanding, they get treated like morons..
Oh, I don’t have anything to do with mask wearers if I can help it. That I don’t mind them wearing masks doesn’t mean for a moment that I want to associate with them.
I’ve actually seen a slight increase in masking recently with the news of an alleged new Covid variant
Company hired a twenty something for the drafting department. This goofball walks around the office wearing his Covid mask on his chin.
Yeah, the stupid is strong on that one….
I was in the store (in NJ near my work on Friday and I was amazed how many people were wearing masks again. Maybe I need to mask shame them the way they did me——
I simply don’t get it. They’re wearing surgical and cloth masks that do absolutely nothing-—which is proven science. In the words of “Scar”-—”I’m surrounded by idiots...”
Yes. There are the “statement” people (visibly displaying hate that everyone else is ‘allowed’ to be normal) and then there’s a second cadre of people who feel the same way but know inwardly they’re wrong. These leap out to mask at the first media hint that a new strain might be around in hopes their overlords will again seize power and resume mandates and lockdowns.
to me, wearing a mask right now says: “I’m mentally ill ... and probably a hard-left Democrat.”
btw, i remember a few mentally ill sheeple who ALSO added goggles to their masks back in the day because Fauci said so ...
interestingly enough, that didn’t seem to last too long, though ... perhaps because only a very few people goggled, and the gogglers felt too displaced from the herd and needed to rejoin the herd of ordinary maskers ...
Their entire identity is tied up in that mask.
It is a question worthy of much thinking and reflection.
In my younger days I was Fred and Tena’s son. That did define me as standards were high.
The related question is WHAT DO YOU WANT? That is difficult. Most people can answer in great detail what they don’t want.
These questions lead to the proper questions. WHO IS GOD AND WHAT DOES HE WANT.
These are age old philosophical questions.
“Every month or two, I see a single person in a car, windows up, wearing a mask.”
well, at least they may be protected from car cooties ...
It is not necessarily a”Covid mask” - maybe they’re worried about RSV.
“The problem is there are people with medical conditions that have to wear a mask.”
and yet prior to covid, i never saw a single person in public wearing a mask during my entire lifetime ...
“As long as they’re not trying to make me wear a mask, I really don’t care.”
They don’t think like that and I guarantee, if mask mandates came back, they would be screaming that “you and I want grandma’ dead”!
We are not dealing with rational people....However, I didn’t like being mask shamed so I won’t do it back to them. However, this time around I will be aggressive unlike in 2020.
For example, when the Canadian wildfires happened back in June, my neighbor was driving by and stopped, rolled down his window while wearing a mask. He said “why aren’t you wearing a mask”? I replied “Why are you anti-science? You do know that surgical mask does absolutely nothing other than make your driving more dangerous”.
He didn’t respond but removed his mask and rolled up his window then drove away.
“This goofball walks around the office wearing his Covid mask on his chin.”
at least his chin is protected from covid ...
